Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

Up Next - Executive Assistant Function - To Be Farmed Out (Get those resumes out)

HPE is signing a contract with a global company to provide Executive Assistant function beginning 2/3Q17. Do not believe you have a special relationship with your executive AND will not be included in this job elimination. You will. Executive Assistant function will be pooled and managed similar to other contractor teams currently managing Accounts Payable and HR function. This is a Meg Whitman decision and it will happen. It is not being disseminated with senior executives at this time so do not believe because your boss doesn't know about it, it's not happening. It is slated to happen. Get those resumes out now while the market isn't glutted.

I am an EA and work for a senior executive. I have been informed this is coming down - was told in confidence so I am better prepared. I was on the fence about sharing this as it was told to me in confidence, but as someone has shared it here, I will confirm.

This has been going on for years now. I personally know Admins from different Organizations that were laid off, and replaced by Contractors. Same thing with HR first point of contact representatives. I guess you are referring to a mass-scale change... If so, well... It could happen - at least in the States. Other Countries have tougher laws on things like that. Here in the US, employers can do whatever they want. They can even discriminate (in whatever way they want), by sending the role overseas, and claiming "lower cost structure" as the justification. What an irony... If you are an "old" person, and you are fired and replaced by a younger one, that's discrimination, but if the same person is fired, and the role hired in another Country (i.e. Costa Rica, India, etc.), then under the law it's not considered discrimination per se. We need to have employment laws more similar to the ones in some European countries. Companies like HPE think twice before kicking out people there, and if they still proceed, they are subject to big penalties and monetary compensations... As a nation, we are really weak on that area...
