Very interesting. This old article seems to aid in explaining why Camden is the way he is.
"This is how Shaulis s---ed up “40 hours of purgatory and a paycheck” every week for seven years. He worked for Nevada’s overcrowded, understaffed prison system..."
(Bitter)
"He walked into the job with a Ph.D. in sociology and left in July with a binder of bitter stories."
(How much did it cost Camden in student loans to get that Ph.D only to become a prison guard?)
(Bitter)
"Shaulis, 47, who quit the Nevada Corrections Department to teach criminal justice at the College of Southern Nevada, says it was no secret he was writing about his work."
(Still, someone with a Ph.D teaching at a community college after leaving a "soul crushing" job... Sound familiar?)
(Bitter)
It seems that Camden is a product of his environment. Burned by the prospect of completing a Ph.D only to be employed by a prison and a community college, he's now funneling his feelings into taking out his rage on everything he believes to contribute to the "problem" as he sees it that he once bought into.
Just like every social justice warrior, Camden may scream the loudest, but does anyone really listen?
