Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

Mushrooms

Lets face it. No one, except the upper level executives, know what is really going on. They are treating everyone like mushrooms, keeping them in the dark and feeding them crap.

This includes the stock holders, managers and hourly employees.

Every day there's a different story.

Cabala's 2020 strategy no kidding is to sell more and spend less ... really and they don't even have a plan on how to do that. They asked the employees to come up with something. That's leadership I am amazed that they make any money

Oversaturation for a market that is dwindling. The REI market is growing, but CAB appeals to the conservative traditionalist. Shrinking market = trying to survive on a scrap of marketshare. People used to come to the green roof for staff experts, but we don't hire experts anymore. Or train them. Also the Amazon factor for all the soft goods and non-firearm related items - better price point and people are used to waiting a week or two for their stuff in exchage for the discount. Hard to compete when the ticket is limited to the firearm and ammo or big ticket item and then all the other stuff with the margin is bought somewhere else. Three or four of the big ones will have to die to let the others survive. Maybe enough others will close to help CAB make it. https://consumerist.com/2016/04/19/why-are-so-many-sporting-goods-stores-going-bankrupt/

Big 5 is about to fold here in the West - most stores in our industry are failing. What's wrong?

You are kidding yourself if you still think it's good to come, signs have shown for years that no one at the director and above level care about any level below and even the directors and non executive officers are short lived. If you haven't got out yet you'd be crazy not to make finding another job a part time job.

I pray that the silence is strategy hard at work. A game of corporate chess where we are fighting to keep an upper hand and win the game. Time will tell.
