Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco layoffs will be announced during earnings call and implemented the next day

I was laid off last year. Its stressful but I found a job before my package ran out. I have better compensation now than when I was with Cisco but I do have to work much harder and longer. I still know managers socially so they share things with me. This years annual summer layoff will be announced during the earnings call and will be implemented the next day. Apparently, the rumor within Cisco, is that the company is going to layoff 10-11s over the next two annual layoffs and then hire those positions back at much lower levels. I think the annual summer layoff is a tradition now so don't expect it to go anywhere (unless there is a way to stop the shrinking GMs that were established unrealistically during the telecom bubble). There is life after Cisco and few companies do annual layoffs. Keep your head up - 10s of thousands of us have done it before.

I've heard from a lot of different places that 1:1's are being scheduled for everybody. I believe some mgrs. are scheduling 1:1's for people laid off and an all-hands for the 'lucky' people who get to remain.

Completely untrue statement that "All Dir and above , who are LR'd . have already been informed weeks back."

The People Deal - give me a break. No performance reviews or development plans for folks gives managers the latitude to be lazy and not do their job - which is supposed to be uplifting their direct reports in their professional development and career paths. Not to say that there are not some good managers who take care of their directs, but the people deal, really, how's that working out for our workforce and our morale? "The People Deal" sounds like something that should be on the menu at McDonald's.

Don't assume that 12s-13s-89s-or 90s are safe. I have a 1:1 first thing Thursday morning and fall into one of those categories.

@1vrl, are you high? Monkeys?

Bottom line is that the damage to Cisco in this round has already been done. The good Humans (smart, ethical, hard working) will flee. Not right away because that would be irresponsible and they are responsible, loyal people. They have sensed that the cisco brand is tarnishing. The "best place to work" moniker is marketing, not actual polling.

They will flee. They will bring their talent, work ethic and enormous industry knowledge to Cisco's competition.

The annual layoff ritual has taken a huge toll. It is the anticipation that hurts the most. This is summer vacation, back to school and fun season. Not for the children of Cisco employees. They get to see Mom stressed and anxious.

Shame on you Chuck

There is a saying "If you throw peanuts you will get monkeys" I am not saying monkeys are bad or they are not capable - there are capable in there own way. They can do many things which educated and intellectual humans can't. There are may be some jobs which needs monkeys were humans are misfit, So why hire or keep humans in such jobs, where they are a misfit, so the only option is the fire humans and get monkeys. Perhaps they may be more loyal to the company too. Who knows ? What I am coming to say is , you need to throw the right bait to get what you need, if it is peanut, that is what you need to throw, what is wrong in it ? Tell me

They are already trying to hire lower pay grade levels to compensate for higher grade level folks who got LRd. Its not working so well. You get what you pay for. Plus, the comp rates are too low to stay in SJ . Even in RTP the comp rates are low.
