Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Does Paal really deserve a a multimillion dollar salary?

What has he done to deserve such a high level of compensation? He is not Steve Jobs and hasn't created anything and in reality he is just a profession administrator doing a job that any others could do just as well. He should be cut back to a salty in line with the work a typical corporate admin person gets - hundreds of thousands and not millions

To be fair, Paal didn't botch an acquisition of BHI. That must be worth $2.3 million.

Why, yes he does. And here is the reasoning, in the good times when things go well, it is because of him the executive. Of course in the bad times, the executive is not to blame, there are other factors driving misfortunes. Now, the executive makes it possible for the shareholders to continue receiving dividends and remain buffered from the pain. And we all know who has to suffer. Houston Chronicle today's print edition has a very good article regarding how so many energy executive's salaries actually improved last year at the expense of others. your buddy Kibsgaard? He ranked 7th among Houston's executive salaries at $18,174,802 beating out D.J. Lesar coming in at $15,871,329. Wow, what a loser! Executive pay in Houston's public companies rose on average by 1 percent last year to $3.62 million. mmm! mmm! mmm1!

way too much for what he does. It's a big company but he is just managing it making decision based on what the accountants tell him. Any number of managers could do his job for much less.

Nobody should rack in these insane numbers for corporate jobs. After all they are not saving lives or the world. Check how much nurses, surgeon, firemen, police officers, etc. are making. Yes PK is leading a big company but this kind of compensation is not at all justified. Give us a break!

Paal deserves everything he earns. He is driving the ship. He is responsible for everything that happens to the company. There is no emotion in the decisions that are being made. They are purely business decisions.

if you think laying off 40K employees is easy, think again. Paal deserves every single penny paid to him
