Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I used to be so proud to work for Cisco

Now I feel like I'm working for a company that's past its prime. Feels like we are constantly changing our message and our direction -- like we are lost, a boat adrift at sea. Layoffs are becoming the annual sacrificial offering to the shareholders to soften the blow for results that miss that mark.

To the person with health issues, PLEASE put those first. There's never a good time at Cisco to do anything - PTO, sickness, etc., but you can't delay taking care of health issues. I've seen so many people give up everything for the company (family time, nights, weekends, etc.) and be on call for Cisco 24/7 only to be let go without a rhyme or reason and without much notice or a trace of remorse.

Very capable, talented people with great track records have been ushered out, so if this happens to you, don't take it personally or see it as a reflection on the value of your work.

I updated my resume and am actively looking for a new job elsewhere and I'm sure I'll land somewhere and wonder why I didn't do it sooner.

So true! Cisco is hardly from being past its prime time. The reality is all about business and the eco system, not the human deal or any other nonsense of the similar kind. There is a big disconnect between the sales and the engineering. The new products being cooked have severe quality challenges. This will eventually affect sales but it will be years for the impact to be seen or understood. The current management will be able to get away with the consequence.

"Cisco is far from being past it's prime time. ".. you are so naive.

You really think, it was PURE cisco wares, that enabled a company to get to be market leader in the past ?

You should familiarize yourself with terms like mrkting, Legal and PR. They played very siginificant roles.

If you see cisco making any progress now, you can bet, that they are in play. If you predict cisco will move up, please understand they Will be propping cisco at that time also.

I think we should stop comparing cisco using software/product/technical-criterion- it is irrelevant , when it comes to reality.

The ship sailed years ago. Cisco is past its prime. Part of me didn't want to give you the bad news, but then I thought it would be wrong to withhold the truth.

Cisco is far from being past it's prime time. Things are changing, and the happy go lucky days of limited competition and crazy growth are over. Yet, as we mature, things will slow down, however, our competitors will continue to have hard time catching up. We have a couple decades to go before you may say that we are past our prime time.
