Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

RTP shutting down

The rumor about RTP shutting down/drastically downsizing has been around for a while.

I wonder when Boxborough will be hit in the same way?

Lots of empty space in the buildings there.

Lots of land that was never used to build the total of 8 buildings (they only ever built 3 in the main BXB campus.

Think there are 1300 people in BXB (as opposed to the 5000 that were originally planned).

Reddit pushes the responsibility to whoever admins the subreddit - not sure if I want to be liable...

@2hel - I am working on a company wide board, 70% done - should be similar to /r but simplified - stay tuned, I might have something out in Sept/Oct timeframe... There is ton of personal liability with a site like this one, trolling, administration, etc. At best you may have a hundred or so users who will visit this on a regular basis (admit it, most people just do not care or contribute) - so the commercial aspect is absent while the liability aspect is as high as it gets as Cisco (or any large corp) has an unlimited legal resources available and I am just a single guy in a rented condo... So, the liability potential will require me to constantly administer content which is something I resent (that's why it's taking so long as I am trying to figure out how to filter out things automatically)...

It is time for a Cisco Flame Sub-Reddit. Somewhere other than here, Glassdoor or Bradreese.com where people can comment un-filtered and not 100% related to layoffs.

Anyone willing to set one up?

Thanks @2efi - both this site and bradreese are new to me. I joined Cisco 9 months ago and all of this with layoffs totally came as a surprise.

Do more Cisco people use this site or bradreese? Which one would you suggest and why? Thanks in advance!

Reese. Chocolate man. Has a very strange bitter hate of Cisco. I mean really weird.

For years, his hate blog was a source of reliable internal rumors. He had famous followers with accurate inside info.

Recently after some health crisis he decided to make his blog about candy and not Cisco.

Most of the current noise on layoffs started there last month, even as the blog is dying.

Some followers came here.

Too many Anonymous talking to each other! I'm agreeing that current RTP is the most packed ever, and is not shutting down. But also making a point it didn't (nor did BXB, nor did south SJC) reach the planned potential. We could talk reasons in some other thread. Most here know those reasons.

12 years ago those 3 buildings were sold. That's really old news along with land options. RTP is at max capacity and looking to either build or purchase new office space. Another bradreese reject trying to cause panic.

Also had options on land which were dropped.

RTP was never built out. YOU must be a newbie. See NetApp? Those were Cisco buildings friend. Never built out. Sold to NetApp.

RTP was never built out? You obviously have never been here. There is barely enough space left to give people a workspace to sit at.

I doubt RTP is shutting down - there has been a huge push to move jobs there and anytime a backfill in Finance is required, the message is to fill it in RTP.

Who knows though?

Rtp was never built out. Sjc coyote valley was abandoned. So bxb is no different. Risk is greater since it is small.

Yeah, the posters on chocolate boy's blog have been shutting down RTP for 3 years.

Yet there are more people there than ever. Parking lots are the fullest they have ever been.
