The GVP position is a redundant position. Their salaries, benefits, bonuses, profit sharing is worth +$4M. Their T&E, company cars, and office expenses are worth another +$4M. There can be more effective direct and consistent messaging through SVP to Regional Managers. Much of GVP time is ineffective due to phone calls, travel, meetings and managing another level of emails. Consistencies and standards can easily be managed through statistical analytics.

sometimes a level of management is created to keep employees from more senior people. The argument will and can be made that without that buffer, the senior executives productivity will drop by more than the cost of the middle managers. I'm pretty sure they'd cut GVP level folks a nice package, too. They're not working people.
They exist for their purpose of relationships with the school. I realized other levels of management have those same relationships, but until Follett family members leave those positions, that level will continue to exist.
