Why weren't the exempt employees offered severance instead of being automatically given a new job title and converted to non exempt status? Is that even legal?

It's OK if the company classifies your position as exempt. They then set the expectation that your work week is at least 55 hours. The tasks you are responsible for would be handled by hourly workers at any normal company. Somehow this is OK? Fixing that is Obama's fault? Why isn't it Congress' fault for failing to pass legislation correcting the problem?
Suddenly, I see why you still work at Follett. They have culled the herd and this is what's left.
Obama and the Folletts are to blame .
Do not blame Obama blame the top level who don't give a rats patootie about the associates who work their patio ties off. Time to get move pn
Obama is trying to help those who wirk for companies who pay min wage or barely over but expecting things like taking CBT on their own time and ridiculous hours. Such as working way over during the company's busy times sacrificing families but cutting hours to the point one can't pay rent the rest of the time. Oh yeah give your life to a company that doesn't even give benefits. Yes companies should pay over time, what it'll cost the company an extra hundred dollars, wow
Obamacare at work !!!!
Ask Obama. Per his direction anyone making less than a certain amount annually is eligible for overtime after 40 hours regardless of title. They become non-exempt.
Its legal, but question the ethics. But as positive Pamela says "this is a great company, give it 110%".
