@how- Good luck to you. I see coders everyday automating the sh&T out of everything, even their own jobs. The maintenance of that automation will be left to overseas centers or H1Bs. No wonder why students aren't flocking to STEM jobs.

No, the reality is that some companies are trying to use that as a competitive advantage over over companies. Whether it truly matters to most consumers when all else is considered is debatable. Would you go with an inferior product over the market leader solely because it has 100% US customer service staff? Not likely, all else considered. And when they say 100% US, does that mean they don't have their staff in the Marianas Islands or some other US possession like a lot of the Made in America crowd? Companies will always find some way to get around things.
@how, I hear you on the wages, bennies and pension, however, that wasn't what this strike was about largely. It was about outsourcing American jobs and forced relocation of staff for the most part.
csw,
The problem is that most customers want the cheapest product, and will put up with off-shore customer service.
Personally, I will pay more, to get someone I can understand.
As a "Left-Behind" IT guy, I wish the union the best of luck on the issue of job security.
For the medical, raise, and pension, it looks good, and I think you should accept that part.
IMHO.
American corporations that utilize call centers need to get a clue, American customers by and large do not want to speak to a foreigner in another country who they can barely understand handling their personal account information. Why are American corporations so stupid? They claim they care about the customer, I don't really think that's the case, I think they are more worried about their bottom line paying foreigners $1.78 per hour.
Ask for United States based call ctrs. You can also ask the time they will be handling calls.
Frontier was advertising that prior to taking over Verizon landline. Now they're using Filipino call center for customer service. It's a nightmare to use them. I've had so many issues since the transfer happened.
I am sure many Corporations will follow.
