Not binding. Both parties would have to agree.

So .... is this binding mediation? If not then it looks like the Union is in for a rough ride. It is hard to imagine VZ accepting any deal that does not give them broad sway in employee movement, reassignment, etc.

Mediation was mentioned at the last minute, however only in one lying Reed email. Federal mediators were never contacted by VZ, the proof is they never asked CWA to come to mediation. The email was a poorly thought out stalling tactic by VZ to buy a few days for strike preparedness.

The labor secretary , (not a hand picked mediator) brought them together It was a strategy. The company had to see they were in for a fight. The company would not have budged from their demands otherwise

it seems union is backing up.

Mediation was turned down by union and now accepted. It's a change and good sign to end this.

So, after a month of Union members out of work, now they are doing mediation. Wasn't that offered a month ago and the Union turned it down? Why do I feel like I've been walking on a treadmill for the last month?

Verizon, union leaders agree to mediator in ongoing contract talks

After meeting in Washington with U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez Tuesday, management and union leaders involved in the Verizon labor dispute agreed to accept the assistance of federal mediator Allison Beck in ongoing contract negotiations. Discussions will continue in Washington under the auspices of the Labor Department.

An estimated 36,000 to 39,000 Verizon workers, members of the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, have been on strike since April 13.

All parties agreed not to make any public statements during the talks.
