They made a couple of people in our region that were salary, hourly today. Seems like a poor way to get more work out of someone. You know they don't approve overtime.

the glass is always 100% full. A portion is filled with liquid, the rest is filled with air. There are no half filled glasses
The US Dept of Labor is cracking down on one of Follett's favorite practices; classifying employees exempt and demanding 70 hours a week from them. Many exempt employees shouldn't be classified as exempt. They should have a 40 hour work week. They should be paid for hours worked in excess of 40 hours. Follett, like other retailers that shouldn't be supported, is converting people back to hourly while saying don't expect to receive over time pay, there is no money for that.
As for thinking you're doing your job well and that makes you good. Ok, whatever. Your colleagues and friends have been brutalized and fired after doing their jobs well for 20+ years. The difference between you and them is age and pay. They cut age because it cut pay. You're not special, you're next.
Ah, until it's you heh?
You guys are looking at this as "the glass is half full".
As positive Pamela says
""BUT there are many devoted hard working employees left ,they have to do the jobs of those gone with no additional compensation. We still are striving to serve our customers, promote Follett while wondering what's next and if we will have a job tomorrow. As for my crew I appreciate their dedication and hard work during these difficult times."
I agree with this, I am one of these. Those of you that call us weak, naive, stupid - that's fine. But I know at the end of the day I did my job and I did it well. I like what I do, the school I work for, the faculty/staff I work with, and my team is amazing. I remain in high spirits that something will change. If it doesn't, so be it. At least I can say I didn't give up. I'll go down fighting. I refuse to stay silent anymore. If something is wrong, I fix it, if I can't I complain to who can. I won't sit back and let myself or my store have a bad image because of someone else. I'm not in this for Follett, I'm in it for my team, my school, and my customer. I'm here to serve them, and I will continue to do so until I'm told I no longer can. You call it stupid - I call it dedication."
That OT law may not apply to store managers. Store Managers have new and defined 'Core Responsibilities' that may not make them eligible for OT. The law states that executive, administrative, and professional job descriptions would likely remain exempt. Follett is playing the game well.
YEP many changes in our area also! Things aren't looking good. Many hard working dedicated folks demoted to lower title position. Guess we'll see what happens.
remember new law in July for salaried people. Look it up. Under 52k is eligible for OT. Maybe changes are from that
Don't you think it should be the other way around. Salaried people do more work and don't get paid overtime. Hourly people have to get paid overtime or they can be reported. If you want people to do more work for less money, make them salary....
Just remember in doing so that allows them to be more dynamic in their response to customers and better front load the customer service experience at peak times. Good, better, wait...never mind, they never do allocate you that labor budget for peak times anyways.
