Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Bottom line EWAs want to go home and Strikers want to go back to work. Will the Union and Company let that happen this week?

May 20 huge date. Is this for show or are the parties serious about getting a contract done?

Had to come back and check to see if anyone responded to what constitutes a 'fair contract'. I guess the union peeps have NO idea.

The math is simple. Look up what it costs to hire a vzw call center worker in America. Now compare it to VZ union call center worker. The difference between the two multiplied by 14,000 members is what they stand to gain by replacing them. Now multiple that number by three years and you have a number larger than what VZ has allocated for handling this strike. If they spend it all, it will impact their bottom line this year, but they more than make it up following years.

Pretty easy to see where this is going, and why.

Sad to say, for CWA and the whatever they can scrape work force. If Verizon could they would want to pay us all 1.78 an hour. Think would they pay a first level mgr 50 k plus is the workers didn't make that much also? The " in fighting " is fun to watch ,very funny jokes. Not all cwa are pos and lazy,

@ 1rus - just like EWAs have no idea what the company heads have up their sleeves. No one knows what is really going on. We are all being kept in the dark.

The individual strikers have no idea what their unions bosses are demanding as a fair contract. Sadly they are called lemmings for that very reason. Blind faith in union bosses who have let greed and theft run rampant through their ranks. Our local CWA would LOVE to have what was offered to this group.

You may be drunk, but asking anyway. What is a fair contract? What specifically is the issue with the proposal that the union objects too? I read it. I don't get it.

@1bdt - what EWA is being told isn't the truth, and im sure CWA is getting the complete truth. No one can really predict what the company heads want to do. It is up in the air as far as im concerned.

Am told: EWA exemptions are being reevaluated and will be denied. More mgmt to be deployed until contractors get up to speed. I don't foresee Vz caving tomorrow. They want the union gone and they may very well succeed.

The company will keep bargaining, their last best and final wasn't really their last, this might continue to drag on but I highly doubt we will be replaced. The company has passed 9 different deadlines over the course of bargaining and they came and went, May 20th will be no different. Also, VPs and Executives are heading to the picket lines saying they want to resolve this as soon as possible. That isn't a sign they want us replaced if they want the strike resolved. And if they do, then they would be pathological liars and I don't know how the existing workforce can trust them.

I've actually enjoyed my time off. Watching these dolts try and get a ladder off and on a van is hilariously entertaining. Still have 4 weeks vacation when we go back. The public support has been outstanding at our lines, icing on the cake. The few that crossed will be retiring in a few months, glad to see them go.

I thought the big sticking point was the travel rules, which the company agreed to waive if there is an agreement by the 20th. What else does the union object to in the proposal? Everything else seems more than fair.

Do I agree with you regarding the probality of a lockout occuring this strike? Sure. But how many members did you lose to this strike? According to VZ 1500 have officially crossed. Thats 1500 less members you have now and the strikes still ongoing so there will be more. Judging by your membership rates over the past 2 decades you average a loss of about 2k members every year. Every year. Why should they beat you now when they can just continue BAU and work you all into the ground and watch as the amount of your due paying members continues to decline by itself?

You got it backward, bro. The company cannot replace you permanently during a lockout, but they can hire permanent replacements during an "economic" strike. You can argue that this is a ULP strike if you want to, but that is for the NLRB to determine after the fact.

"Please stop spreading misinformation. This is an economic strike. The company absolutely can permanately replace you during this strike."

They wont, they will realize how much egg will be on their face if they do. Also, I hope they are willing to pay a massive amount of unemployment, the government might have a problem with that too. I am pretty sure they also don't want 40k to be on the unemployment dole, it would hurt their already underinflated unemployment numbers. Keep dreaming, it ain't happending.

"May 20th is not significant, just another day that will come and go. The company can't replace us permanently legally unless they call a lockout, and the company won't do that either. All they do is push lip service, all talk and no bite."

May 20th will determine how long this will last.. If no movement by then this is going a real long time.

I agree completely. I don't hate the union and I hope they get a contract that they can live with. I have been doing 6 days 12 hours a day and it's getting old. Good luck to everyone......
