Where were all you Verizon Defenders 6 or 7 months ago? Sure people who get laid off will be angry, but you could not find even 1 Verizon defender back then .
Now there is a Union on strike and the board is flooded with people defending the company. Or is it all the same person? Makes you wonder if they are even real Verizon employees, or wtf they are. Doesn't anyone else find it curious that nobody was defending Verizon on this board during the layoffs?

What makes the union look impotent is that they are crying the company is dividing and conquering yet they were one of two signators on contracts that created two classes of workers. 2003 no job security and 2011 no pension or new hires. Didn't see that one coming you ignoramuses? You want the members who do not benefit from that to strike those that do? F'n hypocrites. Yours truly, 30 year member.
Just becuase people are agianst what the Verizon Union gets away with...how they act when they gonin strike....does not make us "company defenders." The problem is that the Union is just as bad as the Company and the EWA folks are caught in the middle.

The Union is not winning ....it is a stalemate at best but the Company played the Union and has much deeper pockets and can wait this out a lot longer than the CWA. Do you think the CWA is willing to use the whole $400 Million in it'strike fund during an election year.....I don't.
If / when you come back it will be on a worse contract then you had prior to the strike and the Union Assoc. Will be complaint about how they got sold our by leadership....agian. The union leadership is just as bad as the VZ executive leadership and in the end they will sell you out and the worse thing is they will do it after they kept out of work for months....
In two years the Union will be much smaller agian....those are just facts.

No one defended those that were laid off because they were so grateful to keep their jobs they didn't care about those impacted. Sorry but that's just human nature.
Now the strikers are getting tore up by angry ewa'ers because their lives have been inconvenienced with difficult assignments making them angry at the strikers.
At the end of the day people only care about themselves and how their individual little worlds are effected.

Where exactly have these layoffs taken place? Which states?
Ton's of layoffs are happening at all big companies.
VZ, AT&T, BAC, Wells Fargo, Lockheed Martin, etc.
The one thing I do agree with the union on, is we need to do something about jobs going off-shore.
Many of the union members, are good it account, as you can't send the line work (splicing, installs, etc) off shore.
Try to understand, that some of the call centers are not needed, and some people may need to move.

RIFs - terminations / firings, not layoffs, have been a way of life at VZ for the past 10 yrs. Where have you been? Big difference between being laid off and terminated without cause. Use the correct terminology. Those 6,000 people probably needed to go. Wireless has been fat for years and the butcher's knife was way overdue for the unsheathing.
I find the Union news interesting, the speculation on what spouses are doing when their partner is away - not so much. This time of year I'm sure many had to go to End of School Year functions alone. Those concerts and awards ceremonies are once in a lifetime. I'm so glad that when my spouse traveled it was only for a week at most. The "why don't you work somewhere else" posts are irritating. I'm sure they have no idea how much BS a person has to endure to get that 4th or 5th week of vacation and how many layoffs they survived to get there. Vacation is not something you can get back when you have to start over in your fifties. Verizon's solution to that appears to be offers of help to declare my spouse disabled. I hope everyone has found jobs by now. It is 6 months since we got the news. Even though we saw the Rif coming, it was still quite a blow to be considered old and replaced by foreign workers. There was a sadness and tension in the house, kind of like the stages of grief. I hope everyone's relationships survived the onslaught in December as well as the strike that is going on now. For us things are going well - trying to squeeze the last drops out of our severance health care and enjoying an eight or nine hour workday instead of the wacky world of Verizon IT.
Well it can't be Union members making the anti-union, or the union-just- give- it- up, posts can it? That has to be someone else. Maybe they really think they are just superior to people who work with their hands? That is the message our society drills into people.
Could be people who are suffering from "sunk cost fallacy." Deep inside they realize that Verizon wants to shed, abuse, use up, lay off, rif, attack, and discard all employees. Everyone who isn't an insider on the little executive board is treated as a disposable part, a liability, not an asset.
But if they admit that, even to themselves, then they admit they made a mistake tying their destiny to this stinker of a company.

I honestly think a majority of the topics are started by a handful of people. And it is also my opinion that it's Union members, and a few outsiders, trolling each other. It's quite a shame since this board COULD be extremely useful.
