There will be layoffs one way or the other. VZ doesnt need as many wireline employees. Period. Right now the management employees are on teh rolls to help with the strike. Once the strike is done many will be let go so hold on to the money you make during teh strike... you will need it.
DOnt dring the koolaid whether union or management.

Are you saying that VZ hired managers for the strike or there is extra management because of the strike?
They were the same managers that were there before the strike.
Let's look at history. The attrition numbers are due to the company getting rid of the long time dead wood. Its the union employee that will lose. There is no guarantees in the contract nor will there be in any new negotiated contract (if at all) that will keep any or all union members.
Planned layoffs for management are due to business unit downsizing or consolidations, it doesn;t have anything to do with the strike. Honestly, whoever decided to go on strike really made a miscalculation of what is coming and the damage that they did to the union employees.
Please please please include me in the next RIF. I was hoping to be RIF'd during the last round. I want to leave this company but refuse to do so without a fat check in my hand. If only there were a voluntary RIF. But for now, I'll work my EWA role and rake in the extra dough. Good luck 'walkers'.
What happens to union people if the strike never ends and you are replaced? Think about that one.
Most of the EWA folks are not frightened of a RIF. I've survived many of them, and if I get hit I can get a job at 100 other companies. In fact, some of us wouldn't mind getting riffed so we can bank the big severance and work somewhere else.
I don't know why RIFs are so scary to you folks. Do you not feel you can work anywhere else?
There will be layoffs with or without a strike. This has been going on for years. Many of my group are gone. Big deal. Life goes on. I like working here a lot, but if it comes to that for me, I take my package and get another job. I think the people most worried about getting riffed are those who either don't have what it takes to get another job in a timely manner (eperience, education, work ethic) or they've painted themselves into a corner debtwise.

Right, we are aware. Both the union and mgmt will not be here in 5 years. Thats why this fight against the senior mgmt is futile. You are just speeding up the process. Get back tonwork, save some money, and prepare to move on like the rest of us.
