Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon Wireline has always had lousy service whether the union is working or not.

Verizon Wireline has always been viewed as having horrendous customer service and technicians that rarely show up on time. Some of you union people keep posting customer complaints, but they are the same complaints Verizon gets 365 days a year. At least right now Verizon can use the strike as an excuse, but the other 99% of the time the only excuse is lazy, entitled union employees.

There is a reason none of you can find jobs anywhere else so you stay at Verizon even though you say you're miserable.

ivb -- do you know what 99.9% availability is? It isn't very good. Good is five 9s.

So no, the leadership wasn't lying. That number would equate to last among the major networks if that was the number they bragged about.

OP, are you sure about your statement? According to the Verizon commercial that ran for about 10-15 years, "The Verizon Network has 99.9% reliability." Are you accusing Verizon leadership of lying? That commercial has only stopped running since Verizon has trimmed the workforce so lean that there is simply no way to keep up with all of the work.

@iuh - I am sure you want custom work at Verizon prices, you cheap bastard. If you want the custom work hire an electrician and carpenter/drywall guy because I do not have the tools or the time for your bull sh**.

Worked FSC for five years. Bad Verizon service, walk the walk before you talk the talk. I will only give several examples as I don,t have time to write a book. Spent 45 minutes one Saturday AM to convince a customer he had to plug the set top box into an electrical outlet if he wanted to watch TV. Waste an hour trying to help a person program a remote only to be told I am legally blind. Then we have the ones who refuse to bend over and see if the router is plugged in or push a button on a STB. Trying to explain in home wiring is customer,s responsibility.....like talking to a groundhog. Don't forget the computer side of this.....password reset after reset because customer can't type the same characters twice and it's all Verizon s fault that they let a 3rd party take control of there computer, supplied credit card number and now computer has been hacked. Then we have the foreigners who can't speak or understand English screaming in the phone ...fix it, fix it! They can say that and count dollars and no more. Last but not least....can only imagine the filth and garbage these technicians have to crawl through on a daily basis to try to make this equipment work. Only scratched the surface here......customers dumb as a rock...blame Verizon....I think not!

"management aren't the ones who are always late."

Did you bother reading about mis-dispatching people with double the amount of work for the given commitment times? The company expects an average job to last two hours, but will assign four of them with 8-12 commitments. How can one not run late?

"management aren't the ones who stop in the middle of an appointment because the clock strikes 5:01 (or whatever quitting time is that day)."

And that's not how real life works either.

If one is getting stuck (likely running past 5pm) on the job, and has said "no" to OT for the day, and was not forced by their 1st level manager by 3pm, they notify the aforementioned manager that a relief will be required for the aforementioned job. It's then up to the manager to provide relief and ensure that the job gets done.

People have gotten suspended for staying late and finishing the job, even when they didn't take OT on it. Just for closing it out after 5pm without a minute of OT added.

That's how things work in real life. And mind you, I don't blame the 1st level managers one bit for not being able to be on top of everything. They've got way too much on their plate.

Do any of you clowns know what call aheads are? If the techs don't do them they get time off. Now, if a guy gets 3 jobs put in him for am dispatch, how is that covered? Did he put those jobs on himself? Quitting time, why are so many people being forced? More posters that have zero clue what is really happening, but hey keep posting.

@ztj -- management aren't the ones who don't show up at people's house without call. management aren't the ones who are always late. management aren't the ones who stop in the middle of an appointment because the clock strikes 5:01 (or whatever quitting time is that day).

Sorry, management isn't the one who made you lazy.

You are absolutely correct OP. I make sure people know I work for Verizon WIRELESS when they ask me where I work. The wire line side of the house is known for being really terrible, especially if you need any type of service that is custom. It's pretty embarrassing and drags down the reputation of the entire company.

"Verizon Wireline has always been viewed as having horrendous customer service and technicians that rarely show up on time"

Thank mismanagement for that one.

If you assign a technician three repairs where the access is 8-12 and an install on top of that with the same commitment time, there are likely two customers that won't get their issues addressed as it had been promised to them.

"Horrendous customer service" has started mostly when the DSL support was moved to India, if you're talking about "live" support.

The fact that it takes one three minutes short of forever to get an actual rep on the phone is also due to company outsourcing and downsizing, and not something that could be attributed to actions of its unionized workforce.

So, OP, you've gotten quite a few facts wrong here. But I'm sure you knew that already.

The OP is correct. Verizon has a reputation for having by far the worst service of any large carrier -- it's been that way for years.

Someone made a post with a bunch of customer complaints trying to make it look like they were because of the strike. I just laughed because those comments come in every day of the year and have since at least 2005. I remember talking with an MCI customer back around 2005 or so who was very upset that MCI was being acquired by Verizon because in his words Verizon had "the absolute worst customer service and field tech's in the history of the world".

Just like I'm starting to get 3g service more recently than LTE. Guess the non union wireless side is slipping too. Although the 8,000 os so layoffs in December 2015 helped that side of Verizon.
