Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

I find it funny how people with engineering degrees never let anyone forget it. It's as if the Titans of many major IT software companies all have them or even finished undergrad for that matter. Ultimately it's a self filling profecy if you think you need a masters in computer/software/electrical etc to get ahead, then you do. If you think you're smart and capable enough without it, then you don't.

It's always funny to me how people at AT&T without engineering degrees fire shots all day at the few people who do have engineering degrees. Keep drinking that Haterade. Meanwhile, those of us with engineering degrees who got our are doing MUCH better for ourselves.

LOL..i peaked at 115k...i suppose on some alternate universe that might be low wage even with my lowly BA. Its already been stated that donovan, smith, hogg, et. al., all have engineering degrees....I mean its not saying much these days.

But we all gotta believe what we must about our respective talents/degrees etc, to get us through this life. I've seen how a leader with exceptional emotional intelligence, business acumen etc. can trump someone with engineering degrees and a low EI.

Agreed, ATT get!s what they paid for, entry level, low wage job earners, I am glad for you, at least you are not unemployed

well i don't have a electrical engineering degree or a master's in any of the sciences, but I have a couple high regarded certs, self-esteem, perspective and a lot of experience. And I've done quite well for myself after ATT in just two months.

Let us not forget alot of these signaling protocols were built by the guys/gals in the military (i don't have military background btw)..but alot of this can be learned. Don't let some academic snob tell you otherwise.

I have an electrical engineering degree and a Master's in comp sci. Once I got out of AT&T, I realized how much damage I was doing to myself by working at AT&T. There are better jobs everywhere that actually want us to use our skills and pay us accordingly. It's shocking how much better the job market is for us.

Cont ...if Randall can bs boards and shareholders, speak pixie dust and fairies certainly most people can find a better job. Att pays 30% below market...learn from him, while your getting better skills learn ....about the art of selling. I mean most of the bs artists who last through these layoffs have mastered the art of BS. Balance that with real skill, honestly you can write ur own check.

Not just getting more skillset. For someone to say it's better to stay than look???? Knowing what's likely eminent??? That's a self esteem problem too. Not just skillset I mean look at Randall he can't lead att to the promise land, he ruins every deal he touches, but he thinks highly of himself so much so everyone on the outside buys his shtick...for now.

If you can't find a better job, you need to go back to school and reshape your skill set, no excuses!!!

Good post, AT&T's culture, undervalues people skills, they want to change my engineering skills, to the same level as many of the profesionals In different tech sectors, silly idea, reallity is that we easily would find a better job, making more money with more overall satisfaction, and that is exactly what many of us are doing right now, is purely a political system designed to delegate responsibilities to other people, the ones that actually do the work, thinkers, often really good at what they do, unfortunately they are the ones that get cut in surplus announcements, while the useless management, located their nt victim, thinking long term employment? It is up to you!

It's not difficult to find a better job. There's plent of people on and off this board whose done it. The problem is the culture bests you down so bad making you think you can't do better / like a batteries spouse. But in proof that you can.

It also takes some wisdom by day 5 of my surplus I figured out that all the jobs I was seeing internally and externally were not for surplus candidates. Once your designated ur pretty much out. So I hustled, kept detailed accounts of where I applied, cleaned up linked in and did several other things.

It really isn't hard at all.

So much competition and difficult to find a job. Hold on to what you have.
