Not sure what AT&T is smoking.
DALLAS -- AT&T (NYSE: T) says that is on track to virtualize even more of its network functions onto software this year, a sign that it's inching closer to meeting its goal of virtualizing 75 percent of its network by 2020.

Sure Donovan wants this to happen in order to save money but what is the likely hood this will actually happen by 2020. I want hold my breath. Here in ITO they have issues in automating simple stuff like clearing a file system when its gets full automatically. The famous ITO group that used to handle all tools is gone replaced by TechM and we all know how efficient TechM is. Further they are getting rid of tools like BMC patrol in lue of open source which they do not have a clue of how to implement in an enterprise settings. A lot of our systems are so huge and complicated it will be very difficult to fully automate in order to replace most of tier 1 and 2. It is a nice dream but it is not real. The first thing they need to do is get rid off all these layers of management.
Your all missing the real story. ATT will be all wireless and software very soon. Don't think you will be part of it . contractors and overseas workers will be doing most of the work remotely.
Donovan is just leaking the facts so when your hit you cannot say no one told you.
Why don't they automate an execs real value to the bottom line. I smell increased board pressure.
Donovan should be surplused on his overused under utilized word pivot. The man doesn't have w clue how pivots actually work or make money.

AT&T cannot do simple things and they want to do automation with an AI component. I think they will shoot themselves in the foot and end up scratching this project.
