Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

Need Assistance

Do you know where I would be able find a good list of Oil and Gas companies located in the USA and Canada.

I am planning to make a similar website to this one, but I would focus on Oil and Gas only and I would build something that’s much more functional than layoffs.com – Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. In full disclosure,

I am posting the same message on HAL, NOV, CVX and BHI’s boards here. #NeedAssistance

@1pyz - thanks a lot - I am the OP this is great, gives me a good start.

I am also interested in companies that are not public, I'll have to work on that but your process and link is awesome...

Check the SEC website (http://www.sec.gov/edgar/searchedgar/companysearch.html) and search for Halliburton. I'd suggest using the ticker symbol. Once you've found Halliburton you should see a SIC # with a hyperlink, (http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?action=getcompany&SIC=1389&owner=exclude&count=40). SIC stands for "Standard Industrial Classification". Select that link and you will find a comprehensive list of all companies with that SIC. You can do the same thing for O&G operators and so on.

These are only companies that are registered with the SEC and make public filings. The list may include companies that are delinquent in filing and also companies that have merged or gone bankrupt. You'll have to figure out some way to parse those out. But at the very least it gets you a fairly large list of companies in the energy industry.

Don't bother. If you really want to use your talents why not open a better quality Indian restaurant in the Greenpoint area?

If you cant even source a simple A-Z of Oil & Gas companies what chance do you have of making and running a site. Websites like this don't generate a lot of money plus what happens when Oil picks up sites like these will run out of visitors.
