Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Hey folks, what have I missed lately?

Checking in. About this time last year, Follett acquired Neebo and Ned here started looking for another job. Not that Neebo was a better company than Follett, but Follett has no idea how to run off campus.

It took some effort but getting out of the store was the Best move ever!

Plus, it looks like I was right. Follett killed buyback, took monsoon out of the stores, you can't rent anything...there's virtually no reason to shop off campus anymore. Give it a year or two for the leases to run out and 95% of the off campus stores will be gone.

Anyways, just checking in with my bookstore friends. I hope things are well with you.

Da Troof has been killing it since leaving Follett.

Yes, getting rid of the research department was probably a mistake. The department made millions for the family by buying the correct books in buyback. Dave C probably rolled over in his grave. Mike D is sorely missed. But the family pocketed all that salary money. And they can't admit they made a mistake. Oh well...

It's already been a year and only a couple of off-campus stores have closed and in all cases either there was a Follett on-campus store or BOTH the on-campus and off-campus stores closed, probably lost contract. More on-campus stores have closed than off-campus stores.

Getting rid of monsoon was a big mistake but many of the off-campus stores are still running fine with no more difficulties than any of the on-campus ones.

Getting tired of having to research adoptions. The home office certainly isn't doing any.

Follett keeps putting more and more micromanaging policies in place. More procedures, more oversight, more to do, more wrist slapping.... less payroll, less raises, less autonomy to do what is right for your store. Every day it is becoming more and more like Kmart. They will manage by key performance indiactors and fear mongering.

Follett bought out the competition to the college stores, bingo. They don't want students to have a choice, never did. You think those decisions aren't part of Follett strategy?
