So the other day my Daughter opened up a lemonade stand next to Verizon Wireless store. At first I thought this was a great idea because with all the Union folks walking in circles all day it would naturally draw in business. However, things turned ugly very fast.
The first day not a single picketer offered to buy a drink but they did help themselves to the free samples all day.
On the second day one my daughter decided to withhold free samples in the hopes that it would motivate the picketers to make purchases instead of just taking the samples. Within 30 minutes one of the picketers came over asking about the samples and when my 9 year old told them there were no free samples today the Union member got irate. He started calling her a greedy, money hungry, boot licker and he let her know he was filling a grievance.
On the third day a Union steward came to my daughters stand informing her she would have to start providing free samples or the Union would have to take action. My daughter was confused by this but insisted she would not give out free samples.
Day 4 and the picketers shifted focus from the Verizon store and started picking my daughters lemonade stand yelling RIF RIF RIF. I told her that it simply wasn’t worth the hassle so we broke down the stand and started to go home. The craziest thing was the picketers started to cheer as we closed up shop yelling at us how our greed was our undoing and that they hope we had to move into a basement somewhere. I told her to ignore their hate and we went on our way
Day 5 my daughter is called to the Whitehouse to answer for unfair negotiating tactics. Apparently, it did not occur to the picketers that once we left there would be no more lemonade at all so now they are suing my daughter for a cut of the 8 dollars she made while her stand was open.
