The profits though are black magic with 1 part smoke and mirrors. Remember the pension money that was miraculously found late last year or early this year. Att is great at keeping up appearances. This all catches up to them when shareholders expect more meaningful results (new growth/lines) of business. With Google FI, Netflix, Az and other software companies really start to knock it out the park...shareholders will start to catch on. They're a slow bunch though. But Stephenson is also a great talker.

I agree. It's politics. I've noticed people in Dallas fair a little better. I also noticed the slimy salesman/woman factor (Randall's culture). If you're a good bs'er, keep your nose down, subscribe to the status quo, you'll last longer. But at what cost????

It used to piss me off. But I landed well/nicely. So I feel compensated for my heartache and pain.

Its amazing to see some of the people not affected. Those that really don't do their jobs! No one deserves to lose their job, but it really sucks for those that work really hard and have been for almost 30 years. This company has no "human" quality left. All these layoffs while boasting big profits for the 1st quarter.

I agree great thread!!! I think it's important to remember that though some of these layoffs lack not just fairness (in some of the personal stuff with high performers with opinions, that rub their Mgrs the wrong way) they also have a sloppy excecute on particularly with HR and reps being disengaged, lazy and likely targets themselves. I would encourage everyone to focus on the positives.

A layoff can not only be profitable as suggested below it can also end up being the best thing that's ever happened to you professionally and for your bottom line.

Think like att. Your personal brand is your business too. Look out for yourself by at least seeing what's out there. Job moves typically translate into nice raises. And based on these testaments as well as my own, they can be hefty.

I can attest that Att salary is about 30% below in tech sector. And att is restructuring salary and title. Now is a good time to test the waters and see what's on the other side.

Yes good for you. If you work it right making a well calculated move could be very profitable. It's already been noted that Att's salary is 20-30% below the average in most title/orgs. And if you could use the time to get a cert. (And perhaps make att pay for it) it would be worth your while.

Also self selecting for layoff/severance with a new/better job to land to, would be excellent too. At some point staying has diminishing returns.

Good luck
