It's such a shame when the people who generate a firm's income ask for a decent share of it. We all know that the bulk of the firm's income should go to pampered executives who pay nothing for their health insurance, receive huge guaranteed pensions, and even get extra money with which to pay their taxes.

@wju, most of Verizon Wireless is in non-union labor areas. So without Wireline unions, it's doing just fine.
My 10 year old BMW which I bought used has 125K on it. I do a lot of my own maintenance and keep it in good shape. I paid less for it than a new corolla. The union cars at picket areas are newer and more expensive than mine.
Why don't wireless people understand that without wireline there is no wireless?
igz , talk about stupid, the business unit was the cash cow for wireless you pee brain, and the union does pay into healthcare.
You were getting a share of it even though you generate very little of the companies revenue. Now you will probably end up with no job.

Another incredibly stupid OP.
First, the work that the combined union performs generates less than 8% of the company's net income. The union already gets part of that revenue -- it's called a salary and benefits. The people who generate the other 92% don't feel like you people deserve more than them, yet the union gets better benefits and better pay (compared to the market) than they do.
Second, the business unit you work for is the boat anchor that drags the rest of the company down.
Third, the rest of the company pays for their healthcare. It's insulting to those of us who chip in for our healthcare to listen to whiny, lazy, entitled union people whine that they shouldn't have to pay for their healthcare when the rest of us do.
Fourth, for a group of people that generate such a tiny amount of Verizon's net income, the union causes far more problems than it is worth. It's amazing how 90% of the company's problems come from the people who generate less than 1/12th of the company's bottom line.

These are not cheap cars in Basking Ridge. Not by a long shot. Are the owners in hock up to their a$$? You bet! The cost of keeping up with the Jones's and trying to fit in and make it to vaunted Director.
No question there is a lot of debt, and why a lot of managers are happy to be out there getting some free money. Well, not so free. But pretty close. Like a vacation adventure away from the office. Getting paid better than you ever do, to play hookey to going and play 'Tool Time With Telecom Tom'!
But the fact remains it is an extraordinary sight to see of expensive cars all in 100's of thousands of square feet of garage space.

My truck has 123,000 miles on it and I'm almost done paying my $47/week loan. Let's compare that to the BR parking lot.
Pre-owned Audi's, BMW's and Mercedes are not very expensive. Some union workers' big trucks are not cheap either.
I'll bet that there are more Audi's, BMW's and Mercedes per square inch of parking space in Basking Ridge, than anywhere else in the state of New Jersey. Truly a sight to see.
