Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The timiing was brilliant. The company once again sold off cash flow positive wireline properties in order to pump more money into losing operations like go90 and their plans to shift from a telecom company into an advertising company.

The company laid off something like 8.000 managers last year, many who had both an understanding and more indepth training in OSP operations. The company stole/froze the management pensions in 2006 and then cut-off retiree health benefits for any manager that did not have a certain number of years by that point. For those managers who were retired and those who were retiring, they ramped the health benefit costs to the point where it was much cheaper to go on obama care.

Now they want to do this to the unions, and it was not uncommon to hear around Basking Ridge how lowell and his minions hoped to "break the unions" and how much distaste lowell has for the unions.

Many managers sensing what is happening to this once great company therefore support the unions in their efforts to protect the company, customers and employee benefits from these 'Madmen' carpet baggers who hope to undo decades of good profits, good products, good service and good jobs.

After the Forntier sale, less people to do EWA.

No strikers in CA, TX and FL, so not many to replace, but lots of EWA workers are gone.

August, April, it doesn't matter. The union is losing the battle and will get the short end of this stick as well. Just try not to go down with the ship because when it all comes down, the union leaders just worry about themselves. Worry about yourself and do what is best for your family. If that means walking the picket, then do it. If that means getting back to work, then do it. If it means finding something somewhere else, then go for it. Just don't make the mistake of sacrificing your future for the union. Sacrifice and loyalty are good traits but only to a point and then you become someone taken advantage of for someone else's agenda.

Because the Atlantic hurricane season starts May 1st and does not end until November 30th. Do you think it would have been wise for the union to strike with an active tropical depression lurking off of the coast of New England? If the union went on strike during a weather event, do you think they would garner any sympathy from the public? You see, even "uneducated" union thugs can recognize weather patterns. Get your rain gear ready gentlemen.

Because the snow is against them and trying to take the money and free healthcare that they are entitled to.
