Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Volunteer lay off

I have been pondering this for some time and wondered how follett would respond if I requested to be laid off. I feel horrible for the long term people that were let go.

You are absolutely right on the money. Why would you layoff good employees? Follett was built by its employees.

You should all just go find another job. Layoffs are done without regard to anything except cost and a diverse group (age, sex, ethnicity, etc.) Managers are undermined by their boss. That means good people are let go and unproductive people are left behind. That does not help the company in the long run and managers now have crappie teams and no trust in the company.

they will fire you ...no severance. either quit without the package, or wait out what may never happen (severance) and be miserable with everyone else still there.

the right mix of tenured employees are included.

Yo! If you carry enough tenure, you aren't laid off. You're driven out and given no severance, no benefit, no outsourcing help. It's thank you for 20+ years and don't let the door hit your asson the way out. SCUM!

HR picks who will be laid off. The manager has no say in who is to go. That protects Follett from lawsuits as they make sure the right mix of tenured employees are included,

Ed R did something similar 2 years ago. He volunteered to be layed off rather than another associate in his area. But you sure better trust the person you talk to about this.

If you really trust your manager and have a good relationship with them, then talk to them. If there are more layoffs coming, the can probably help you out since it saves them the headache of figuring out who to give the ax.

If you approach them, they'll take the resignation and walk you out. You get nothing. If you've been with the company for a long time (read 15+years), they're likely plotting how to force you to quit anyhow. Longer tenured employees have been abused out. The company will inflict harm upon an employee rather than cut a $25K severance check. Don't romanticize who you're dealing with or your importance to the company.

Volunteering to be layed off is quitting - you get nothing.

I agree. They will take advantage of your offer to resign and you will get zero severance etc. They are looking to save every dime they can get. They can increase use it to pay the dividend.

That is very gallant of you but Follett will view it as you are quitting. Thus no unemployment if you don't already have a job lined up. Follett is getting rid of long term employees because they cost the company too mush money in payroll and benefits. You mean well but wait till they make the decision so you can get severance and /or a few $$ unemployment. Better than nothing.
