AT&T is doing away with SDA and BSIM. Name to be determined will be U-verse and DirecTV and TFS will be BSIM and SDA-Core. Why you ask? AT&T is supposedly packaging up its legacy business and will be (or already has been) shopping for a buyer. If you want any hope of a future make sure you position yourself on the "growing" side of the business.

AT&T has wanted to change I/R SDA & BSIM for a while, they want a re-organization to remove job names and responsiblities, to lower all techs to a even pay. There hasn't been any talk about SPECIALS, they cant run the company without them. But they would love to get rid of double time for I/R, so on and so forth. They would love to see some of the "older" techs retire. Title changes and job responsibilities will change more than anything.....Just saying what I've heard through the grapevine, may not be reliable. Idk
TFS/Technical Field Service
I'm curious to see if anything happens tomorrow April 1st regarding this. Mgmt in BSIM hasn't announced the name change to us yet. But I've seen TFS in a few people's email signatures.
They've been selling us to Frontier Cimmunications for like 10 years. Except Frontier has never turned a profit, and is on the stock watch list. They don't have any money, and it's hard fo imagine someone giving them the money. But, something is up. And shame on this Company for the way they've messed their customers and employees over.
I believe it stands for Technician Field Support
What does TFS stand for?
Bad press for mass layoffs? Mass layoffs has become the absolute norm in America and most people here don't care as long as its not their job being cut. I've never read or heard a news article stating, "X number of customers abandon (insert company name) after announcing mass layoffs, have you? Most Americans (sheep) believe that when they read, "It's best for the shareholders", it's best for them and their little 401K. Have you watched Shark Tank? Whenever someone has an idea for a new product, the first thing that's asked is how much does it cost to produce? If someone mentions they want to keep production in the US, all the sharks yell, "I'm out" in unison. We need laws and tariffs to bring jobs back to America before it's too late. Right now we still have tremendous buying power because we still have the world's largest economy. Once the middle class is gone, we've lost it. "If you want to sell your products and/or services here in America, you have to employ Americans." Nothing short of laws like that will re-establish what we once had here.
Told over budget no spending contractors digs expense at all in indiana/illinois with layoff of 69 splicers announced 3-15
I think AT&T will take those surplus techs and just sell them with wireline assets to a company interested in accruing DSL or IPTV customers. Then the buyer can do the layoffs without AT&T getting the bad press.
Combining SDA and BSIM to one group again....then guess what too many techs and not enough work load due to AT&T pushing Direct tv over uverse TV....ie less trouble tkts generated to outside techs....Equals maybe a Surplus of core techs!!
Wonder if that would explain why BSIM management decreed that no spending on anything until April 1. Preparation for this.
So what is TFS?
SDA is Service Delivery and Assurance, BSIM is Business Service Installation Maintenance. They're part of the AT&T TechOps/Field Services Organization previously lead by Randy Tomlin.
Agree with 1st poster, something is up!
Being not too familiar with the acronyms what are they and which business groups?
