Thread regarding Sears layoffs

70 maint workers gone..3-4-16

After 8yrs Sears gave me the boot. At one time I had 13 stores to maintain. Slowly got down to one store....the only onr that made $$! You could see it coming, some stores lost close to a million dollars in a 12 month period. Kmart managers are loading cars, unloading trucks, and waiting on customers....no one else to do it. Corporate greed. Kill the middle class..its almost dead. Middle class shop at stores like Kmart....

I too had worked for sears and sawbuck for nearlyj 42 years, 24 as a deliveryman then bldg. engr. for the store, then fsa then on to qmt. spent about 13 years of grueling work, pos work, all the wiring, hvac work, all the other work and no one ever thanked me for anything. simply, do the job, do it faster or you just might be out of a job. the most irrational, foolish company I can ever imagine working for since it seemingly has no guidance, no qualified management, etc., simply individuals who love to yell, sceam, complain and whine about nothing since it simply masks their own ability to govern their units. I used to love the old company, would make deliveries and installations on my own time because I truly loved the customers and felt a kinship with the company. I retired 10 yrs. ago and have never felt a twinge of remorse since that time due to a lack of any gratitude on the part of sears holdings. I loved the old place but this is not the sears of yesteryear, just a place to work until you find a real job.

sincerely, festus the malevolent

I recently attended a Town Hall meeting where it was quite clear that Eddie is completely out of touch with the real world and what it is actually like working in the stores. He needs to go on Undercover Boss. Five minutes into one of the "little peoples' jobs" that we do, his head would explode.

I just worry about someone getting hurt or killed with all of these cuts and no maintenance on stores. Our store has a roof that is leaking (has been for five years--patched with plywood and a tarp), mold in the ceiling because of the leak, AC than hasn't worked since July and heat that only works half the time. Doors that are rusted and falling off the hinges and shelves that are rusted and leaning.

Now managers and employees are required to do small maintenance jobs-- cant wait to see how this turns out.

I left the Qmt organization nearly 20 years ago after seeing what was happening to the older guys, and watching the retired folks getting their benefits cut.

It was a hard decision to leave, but with a marketable skill and plenty of jobs to pick from, I took a leap of faith and went for it.

Qmts have a leg up on most other layoff victims in this mess. Use it to your advantage.

So all those years all you people worked for a company... All these people saying oh you job hop... Or why have you been to several different companies when they look at a resume... Looks like you all got the shaft, how did staying loyal to a company work out?

I was just let go 3/4/2016 after 38 yrs. 16 yrs as an auto mechanic and 22 yrs as a QMT. I can't wait until the whole company goes under. We were recently told we saved the company a 100 million in energy savings. I guess this is the reward. We have not had a pay raise in over 6 yrs and our mileage was cut twice in less than a year.

Out of 9 Qmt's of d-251 a few years ago only three are left me included. We had 5 stores close a few years ago one Eddie sold for $$$$ Laguna Hills for the mall wanted to update for outdoor type and Sears was in the way. One qmt got the layoff exactly one year since last friday, and five Qmt's got the hammer this last Friday March 4, 2016.

I was also a store Quality Maintenance Technician for them also. 22 years as a QMT and 32 years total there, Something told me things weren't right a few years back..I brushed up the resume and sent it out, Got a job in no time. A MUCH better job, no more micro managing BS,no more stupid head games by incompetent managers who only liked to threaten staff, must be a sears rule to hire people who were picked on in school.. Now l work for a company with $$s to spend to fix things instead of the duct tape and bubble gum BS. There is LIFE after sears don't worry things seem bleak but you'll do okay..

Just don't understand WHY no one there seems to realize that shitty place is going out of business.. The writing has been on the walls since Uncle Eddie merged the 2 companies.. should have left then,The crappy Kmart system ruined what there was that was sears.. I have only went in to a sears 2 times since I left 3 years ago, still looks the same..NO CUSTOMERS..
