Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

After 3 weeks - this is the non-update we get from the National. What a bunch of crap!

From the CWA district 1 newsletter

If Verizon doesn't start bargaining fairly, and this means now, we're prepared to strike. Bargaining can't just be about the company's needs.

Tell your managers that the company needs to back off concessions on pensions, job security, contracting, Family Leave, and Sickness and Accident Disability. They also must negotiate a fair first contract with Verizon Wireless retail workers and a fair contract for the Verizon Wireless techs.

If Verizon doesn't move at the table, we will be on strike. Get Ready.

Unfortunately these are the FACTS! The agreement was put into place after the last strike. The Union agreed to it in principle to retrieve fired Union members. They all got there jobs back as per the new WSA. In the agreement the Union must provide all strategies the would be detrimental to the company. Any deviation would void the agreement, and the Union would be in violation.

Oh Yes...I know all about the WSA alot of business agents were told to keep it extremely quite, but enough is enough, and it has to be out in the open. The Union must provide a "timetable" of a duration of the work stoppage, and if the company deems the stoppage is to long they can call an RTW (Return To Work) it would be under the force part of the agreement. The crazy part of the RTW is that the company can pick and choose the techs they want to return, and locations. So i'm guessing it will go by the techs productivity numbers, and where the work load is high. Also the Union must provide the names of any picketers that would be mobile and not at a stationary assignment.

-2itr Bullshit. We are working without a contract. We can walk at ANY time for 1 day protests up to 3xs till the DOL / NLRB steps in. If we are going to strike I believe we just need to give 24 to 48 hour notice. If we are out on strike the company can NOT declare an emergency and force us back. Wher the hell did you hear that crap?

There is no WSA in the contract.

This is why there is not a strike YET... remember the The CWA Union's Nationals press release, "it said we're not on strike YET." In the WSA the Union must provide any and all strike related strategies to the company in writing no later that 60 days prior to a work stoppage. Since the Union doesn't seem to have a strategy...No notification has been given, thus for there not on strike YET.

2baw , you say "the union must" "the company must" and "what ever it means" I said it before and I'll say it again its B**t . A strike is a strike there are no guidelines.

Yes this is true, also under the WSA (Work Stoppage Agreement) The Union must agree not to leave an "unnecessary" work load...So if the work load is high, the Union must reduce the installation orders to a level the company deems fair. The Union also agrees to assist in "technical issues" what ever that means. The Union must "assist" in any emergency declaration the company might declare. and again this is under the replacement contract. there are plenty more and it's absurdly crazy, but if any of these agreements are violated, the Union will be held in account for unfair bargaining.

Tell us something we might believe. If the union agreed to this BS so called strike strategy we have nothing and all that reasoning behind not going out on strike last august was for nothing. I don't even know why I am replying it is so stupid.

2rye , Where is this agreement posted that you write about? or are you giving us your own take? What you write about is not a strike strategy. Sounds a lot like B**t

The Union has already agreed to not strike during managers vacations, so that's false right there. The Union has agreed to give the company at least 30 days warning, and the company can request 90 more additional days if the company deems they not ready. The Union must honor that request. The company may also, if they deem necessary, order back some of the striking workers, in areas of the company's choosing, if they declare an emergency. The company can force those workers back to work under an agreed replacement contract. There's obviously alot to this strike agreement between the Union and the company that we don't know all of. So we need to sit tight and let the company work this out.

IBEW local 827 Facebook posted an update. And nothing even close to a strike was mentioned on their post. However management did receive an email recently stating if they are on vacation, they must be able to report within 48 hours to their EWA location in the event of a strike.

If you are not hearing anything, that maybe good.

Things may be happening.

YOU HAVE NO PLANS to strike.

NOW, or in the future.

You will only strike, if VZ declares an inpass, and puts there latest off in, as the new contract.

The company forces OT because they are behind with FIOS orders so instead of walking out and leaving the company with their pants down, the union advises to work all the OT you can get which will basically catch up the back orders and put the company in a better position when a strike occurs. Brilliant!! Guess greed wins over common sense every time.... Lowell obviously has the Unions balls in a jar on his desk

In a late breaking story the CWA and IBEW Unions have finally won concessions from the former ceo of Verizon telecommunications. The 86 year old Lowell Macadam, in failing health, was signing family papers bequeathing his $127 million dollar estate to family and friends when a union steward slipped a contract agreement in front of the, almost blind, former ceo awarding members an extra $2 a month increase. The former ceo unwittingly signed the $2 increase. Later, The Union and its members were jubilant, waving banners and crying out "we won, we won."

Why strike? this is the best contract we'll ever see...The next contract will suck. strike or no strike. let them lock us out, or if they start to implement a new contract then walk. other than that, get paid, and do as much OT as possible. Save Save Save that OT money... very important.

Your Union Reps need to stand strong or you will end up like the non Union employees. Employees laid off last week after 34 years with the company. Employees told they MUST deploy in the event of a strike and for how long is uncertain. If you want to keep your job you must deploy. Jobs moved overseas at will. Premium pay for after hours, Stopped at will.

This is just a few.

We could strike but

We would strike but

We should strike but

Your leadership has decided to call a strike, but we want to give the company one last, last, last, last chance to bargain fairly, unless they need more time, and then we could and would and should not go on strike and fairness dictates that we give them more time.

Therefore your Union leaders have decided to wait until August 1st of 2016, by which time our patience with the bargaining process will be exhausted and we will demand to know just what they intend to offer. We are committed to the fight, brothers and sisters, but your leadership feels we need to stay focused and be patient, just until August 1st. A short 6 months, just in case the company needs more time. Very reasonable.
