Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

So ....probably the majority of us/potential SCABS on EWA did not volunteer and do not want to go on EWA duty for the union. We get you want the Union benefits the majority of us do not receive...you pay the UNION DUES to get these...no idea what that is exactly but your still financially, I am sure better than the rest of us. We all have families to support that this Strike will hugely affect all of us, we get UNION doing what is believed to be right we just all need our jobs the benefits and such. Just know the SCABS that cross the line are not the enemy... our particular area view is actually trying to keep the company going so you have some kind of contract to go back to.... And BTW not Management and it is not an option chosen. We know our days are limited... Really hope the UNION pulls through for you but it doesn't seem like it. HATE for all people involved it's not just the companies fault nor the union... Verizon benefits are very competitive in non union jobs ...we understand Union Members are use to better but we live in an area Unions just don't have any influence and we are grateful for what we have. All stay strong do what you have to do but know we're all a team fighting to keep our jobs with pay ...we all need jobs. We are all replaceable or a RIF away from the jobs that pay the bills. Sad but True

I was on strike duty in Albany for the few days we were there before they moved us. I remember that fat slob, hope he's still not around.

Ready, willing, and more than capable of performing my assigned EWA task. This cant happen soon enough for me. I'm definitely looking for all the overtime I can get. I'm looking forward to having striking employees be my audience while I handily fill in for them. I plan to exceed customer expectations and make true mockery of the petty demands your leadership is making. I intend to leave a lasting impression that upon your return will be hard to replicate, assuming you're allowed to return. Verizon as an employer has far beyond met my expectations, and I plan to reciprocate every day of the strike if it ever occurs. Who cares if senior leadership makes 30 times more than you? I still regret not throat punching the fat, blood filled tick slob who blocked a woman (me) with his fat gut from getting in the building in Albany last strike duty.

I was forced to work EWA in the last strike. I can assure you that every management employee who had to spend 3 weeks dealing with in-your-face union harassment each time we got out of the van and climbed a pole to fix a line Did NOT volunteer. We had to work strike-duty or else face termination or at a minimum the expectation my name will be at the top of the RIF list if you refused. They called us scabs but we were IT and Finance workers who had to fly a thousand miles from home and put up with harassment from union members for weeks in a clearly illegal hostile work environment. While I appreciate some of the union issues I ask the members to also understand that none of the Verizon personnel that will show up the day after you trike had much of a choice. DO NOT harass and try to intimidate this time.

We are on this together but when you have people who rather take advantage of the system then there is only so much that one can do to help.

I have don't just look for the respect of my peers but the teammates that make it possible for to be successful. I understand there are things that come up that are unavoidable since I also have a family as well. I wish more management see that not all union employees are the same. Every company regardless of where you go will always have some bad apples.

So if you are a team member who cares about the customer, understand the company we work for wants to make a profit and work hard everyday, I want to say thank you. We hear tons on crap but the ones who give it thier all don't hear this enough. For the ones who are only here for a paycheck and hate working for this "greedy" company, look around please. This is not the end all be all. All the money in the world is not enough to come to a job you hate so much and ruin your health over. That pension you will get won't mean anything if you can't spend it or enjoy it with you family.

Do something different in life because life can change in a moment and I say this as a father who lost his most precious treasure years ago. I missed plays and school events because I worked for a investment company that "suggested" overtime to make it. 70-80hrs a week making crazy money just to have to no way to buy time back.

I learned to hate the company and left because it was taking my life over. Then I came to this company and the rest has been better.

So thank you for all the hard work you fathers, mothers, sons, daughters and everyone else does. I honestly couldn't have keep going without some of you.

@1pga, it's easy to see that your a millenial because no one in management is intelligent enough to write a full sentence correctly. That being said, the reason that we earn 30k more annually is because we are actually working 60,70 or 80 hours weekly, taking care of the customer, helping to generate revenue for Verizon. Also, as you so eloquently stated, we are out in all weather conditions, doing a job that quite often can be life threatening, which is why we are well compensated. (Double check your math here, you're numbers are slightly off.) Please don't try to justify or compare a CEO making $18 million annually, with a lifetime platinum healthcare package & golden parachute, to a associate wage of $40k-$100k annually. Not sure how familiar you are with lower to mid-level management, but they are essentially paid $75k-$150k annually to do secretarial work. Basically, they fix and quite often mess up weekly time reports, send out nonsensical emails, watch a lot of television while playing on their phones, eat a lot and of course, they do everything and anything to avoid being the next to get RIFF'd. If I'm correct and in fact you are a millenial, please realize that we're not the enemy. We are fighting to keep good wages and benefits so that future generations won't have to suffer from corporate inequality.

Funny how you brag that you make "30k" more than leadership but you guys act like little bitches when the CEO makes 30 times what you make. It's ok for you to make money but not anyone else. Get a clue and step into reality. This is the end for you fat cats. You guys talk about the CEO making money left and right but take a look at what you guys cry about.

1. Paying for health care which almost everyone does.

I'm telling you now that I personally will be out there doing EWA. The only difference between me and everybody else or maybe even you is I'm going to do the job so bad that when you eventually come back you are going to cry because it has been done incorrectly. You will wish you never went out on strike because of all the sh-- that you're going to have to put up with from customers from your managers because you guys are not fixing the issues quick enough. The Union leadership will drag this out as long as possible. I mean really, wouldn't you? Staying in a fine hotel, per diem, expense accounts, partying, laying out at the pool, no responsibilities at home. And all you have to really do is show up at a sham of a 'meeting' every couple weeks for a couple hours. Sweet Deal!

We all know this is just a ploy...the strike date will probably be something like May 1st and right before the strike is supposed to start the union will come out and say the company has moved a little bit and there is no need to strike.

We all now the company is not going to budge on the big issues but they will move on a small issue so the union leadership can call off the strike and save some face with the members. This will of course cost the union a big issue but that seems to be the way it has been going.

The union has cried wolf some many times now how can anybody take them seriously?!?

it will go well the first month. make it happen get it done whatever it takes. then as the strike continues they will start putting numbers on all your work watching your gps and then the fun really begins. good luck

I was confronted during the last EWA at a stoplight by a CWA striker... and told him the same thing, and his attitude really changed when he realized I was a person with a family, and the company really didn't leave me a choice, either.

YEP. They all love to slam those who might be going on EWA and insult them (sometimes even wishing harm on them) which IMO, just makes them looked like rude and spoiled babies.

Damn right. Going on strike is idiotic. It is harder on Verizon to stay in the old contract than to strike and force them to move. The only ones who lose are the employees whether union or non.
