So much for that after reading Marc Reeds's letter. He told the union accept the terms by May 20th or go on strike. What a joke. The union looks like a joke again. I am sure now the union is going to try and brain wash the masses that this is a great offer.

Welcome to Capitalism at it's worse people. Verizon can make as much money as consumers are willing to give them and with it comes corporate power. Fight for a fair wage and benefits, but nothing comes for free and the Union has taken advantage of benefits that most of the country doesn't see. You can't bilk the system and complain about being squeezed at the same time. You have no one to blame but yourselves.
This is BTS....Just like I said ....You can like it, or not, but those ARE the facts. Your living in a dream world if you think your going to get in this contract. I guarantee you wont. Even the Union knows that, and has already made concessions in there proposals. So why don't you see this? You will be giving back to a company that's making Billions in profit, Your victory is going to be measured in how much OR little you give back. But you will give back. and If you Strike, you can deduct a Thousand dollars a week from that. Then do the math, and see who Won. Again your working under the best contract you'll ever see. Like it or not.

@bts......people like yourself are the biggest reason that we as a nation are screwed. No balls, no fight, no courage. Just bend over and enjoy it. So what you're saying, as companies continue to be more profitable, workers should continue to get less? Pack your bags and move to a third world country, you are not welcome here in the U.S.
@tmy...Your not getting a better contract period! Stop thinking that the next contract is going to "give" you anything ....Your contract is going to be judged on how much you give back. Give back a little....Good contract.....give back alot... not so good contract.....give back what they want......Bad contract...but you thinking that you will be "getting" is absurd, even the Union will tell you that....So YES keep working under this contract because it's the best you'll ever see. That's The facts like it or not.
We'll show them who's boss, well keep working like dogs and justifying the layoffs of our members. After all, we are still working under the same contract. Why would we want to strike and actually fight for a better contract? That's just absurd, only executives deserve more, everyone else deserves less. I would love to work like this for another 2 or 3 years, no raises, no nothing. Then hopefully our leadership will get us a great deal, one where we can pay double or triple for healthcare and work far away from home so I never have to see my friends or family. Off to do another triple play. Yayyyyy, I love Verizon and I love my union.
Tell Marc Reed to shove his last and best offer right up his *** We will be at work tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that too. Lock us out if your for real tough guy! Other than that, shut your mouth, and watch me collect my check with my wonderful benefits, day after day after day........
Again, a lot of misinformation in this thread. The company can only declare "last best offer" after 1 year of negotiation. If they do that, there is no automatic strike, no automatic lockout. They would then turn to arbitration, under mediators or arbitrators appointed by the NLRB. The union would like to have terms dictated by an Obama-appointed court official, during an election year. Let Verizon, a company which depends on consumer sentiment and public goodwill, go out and make the case that employees need to give back pay and benefits and protections while making large profits.
If the company declared an impasse 8 months ago the union would have a strong case for not bargaining in good faith and a unfair labor practice ruling by the NLRB. After 9+ months of bargaining and both sides still far apart an impasse is much more likely. This may end up in arbitration but both sides have too agree to it.
It was last offer on medical proposals. Not the entire contract. They also claimed months ago to have offered last nest final on another article of the contract. Everyone take a valium for Christ sakes, it's all drama so all of us little people think they're really slugging it out.
It will go to arbitration before a impasse. If they could make the Union take a offer, they would have done it 8 months ago. Look up "good faith bargaining"

Seems to me the company is playing a game of chess and the union leadership is playing with themselves.
I bet Verizon started prepping for this contact before the ink was dry on the last one. The union bosses were too busy eating fine foods, smoking expensive cigars and driving big fancy cars to give a sh!t. Glad to see what all that dues is paying for.
Legally, if the union does not accept/ratify a last-best-final offer, the company can unilaterally implement its offer and turn it into a contract. Not playing sides here, but as far as bargaining leverage goes, the union is almost tapped out.
The company will not do a lockout.39000 on unemployment.Even more bad press than they receive now.I for one would be shocked if that happened.But who knows with the leadership we have.
I don't understand all this talk about a lockout. Verizon can implement it's last best offer regardless if the union accepts it or not. That will likely force a strike. No need to do a lockout.
The company does not have to lock out the union. By presenting a final and best offer that is rejected by the union, the company is allowed to declare an impasse and impose the final and best offer on the union. Hence the union will now be working under the final and best offer and no longer under the expired contract.
While the labor laws are more biased towards unions the company still has some cards to play.

All the Union has to do is be patient and wait Verizon out... It may come down to a strike at some point but there is no need yet in my opinion. The Union has lost nothing yet....

Without the Union do you think you would have a job at Verizon??? You would be getting paid half and working for a contractor... look at comcast...
That update was to scare everyone into taking a bad contract... May 20th will come and go. Verizon will do nothing. This will play out for a few more months. The only play Verizon has is to lock the Union employees out, but they wouldn't want to pay 38k people unemployment benefits.
