Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Can we get 106 volunteers???

So, according to the communication finance needs 106 volunteers to accept the severance.

If they get that, no one else will be affected.

Do you think they can get that?

Or do we need to be worried that only a few will volunteer and the rest will be selected by HR?

That is totally the plan.... the people they fire don't get Severance packages as a rule so it's a cheaper way for reduction in Workforce. Even when they fire you they try to get you to sign an agreement that reduces your rights to file EEOC complaints or affects getting unemployment. Everyone is just a number right now and an obstacle to get their buy out approved and for the current Executives to get their golden parachute compensation which is part of the buyout agreement. Everyone has a decision to make...stay in a stressful environment and see if you survive, get fired whether the reasons are legitimate or not, or start looking for a job until you are fired / quit or are offered a severance package that you want to take. Bottom line they are done,..even if they stay in business on some level the word is pretty much out about how unethical this company has been and continues to be all in the name of greed. the employees that truly found it difficult to do what management demanded of them are either being fired or have already quit or are making the decision to leave this company one way or another because in their hearts they know they can't support UOP' s mission statement and UOP can't do enough to reinvent or clean up their image or history. they are totally looking to start the discussion memos and written warnings whether they're Justified or not to get rid of people.

There will not be enough. Numbers came back yesterday indicating such from the email inbox. If not enough people volunteer HR and legal will review the following: discipline which is only WW, cut all those that have had one in the last year, then they move to performance appraisals. If you have a needs overall, you will be cut. Then after that they review all those proficient overall and cut by tenure. The lists are already set; it's just crossing people off at this point should someone volunteer.

I couldn't wait to send in my form! Free at last...free at last! My days of working in this sweat shop are finally coming to an end.

There is no incentive to volunteer like there was with enrollment and the qualifying center. The people who volunteered received an additional 3 weeks of pay. If they didn't get enough volunteers and you were laid off, you would have just received the normal severance package and not the additional 3 weeks. Finance and academics are getting the normal severance package regardless if there are enough volunteers or not. With there being no incentive I highly doubt there will be enough volunteers.

Is it first come first served?

The earlier you submit yours the better?

Or does that not factor into it?

What will HR use when they decide who gets it and who doesn't, if more than the 106 volunteers needed submit.

This is true what someone said about the Qualifying Center. What does this tell you about the company? It's pretty sad and pathetic. I've never seen anything like this. But clearly, this tells the story how miserable the employees are. They'll take a couple weeks paid to leave, that's crazy! But, when you hate the company you work for that's what you get.

This is a sinking Mormon ship people!! When will you realize!?

The Qualifying Center had a voluntary severance option in November and they had 105 people volunteer when they only needed 70 people to volunteer. There were a few people who got denied the voluntary severance who were very disappointed.

Enrollment had the same opportunity in November. They got more than enough and honored all that opted for the voluntary layoff.

I think they will get enough volunteers, maybe too many.
