VICTORY FOR UNIONS IN SUPREME COURT.....Here come the UNIONS!

The Supreme Court on Tuesday handed organized labor a major victory, in a case that had threatened to cripple the ability of public unions to collect fees from workers who chose not to join, and did not want to pay for the unions’ collective bargaining activities.

@ves Yeah, because the unions should unilaterally disarm while the Koch Bros are donating 900 million dollars to try and destroy the entire working class. Thanks for siding with the people that are bending us over, you stooge.

It is not the land of the people any longer, hasn't been for a long time. It is the land of the Corporation now. They even have rights. This deal with Verizon and Frontier is just another Genuity deal . Remember them? No, didn't think so... those people lost all their savings, everything.

Well I don't agree, in our local we don't have much of a presence, our union meeting are held basically when they get around to it, the union has a bad reputation in my opinion not because of some political arm but because they rested when the going was good and allowed piece by piece to be dismantled. Just ask around about the union today then ask yourself would those same people have the same things to say 15 years ago. You have to allow yourself to be pushed around the bully is winning until we as a whole say enough is enough.

@ilk You can thank your elected lawmakers for being bought and sold by Verizon. My local was dragged into court a few years ago, sanctioned, and hit with a court order to cease and desist on what they perceived as a job action......The "job action was filing to many grievances" A judged ruled that our local could not file any grievances unless reviewed by the court until our contract expired. The laws are on the companies side, not labors. They will run to a court on anything they perceive as a "Job Action"

Does anyone feel this Union has done anything of them the past 10 years? I used to be pro Union now most everything is a money grab political angle, it is a shame. The company suspends us, terminates us, badgers us at every step and the best our leadership says is follow the rules, that would have never flied 10 years ago, we would walk if someone was suspended, shut down work etc, bottom line is this union is scared and that doesn't make me feel protected at all.

@lse See Joe Biden and Harry Reid about holding up SCOTUS hearings. While you're at it ask them about filibustering nominations. Bork much? Also, learn how courts, outside of the criminal justice system, operate.

It takes a lot nerve for workers who are drawing a Union wage and enjoying union benefits and working conditions (not to mention having access to union “protection” and the formal grievance procedure) to pretend that they shouldn’t have to belong to the very union that serves as their benefactor.

But it takes infinitely more nerve to say, with a straight face, that in addition to not having to belong to the Union that provides you with all these goodies, you shouldn’t have to pay any part of the expenses incurred in the collective bargaining process.

Actually it was a victory in the lower court. When the Supremes tie, the decision of the lower court stands. Now how is this a union victory? If anything, it's a victory for the Democrat party as it ensures that their campaign slush fund will continue. And some bitch about getting the money out of politics...
