Previous post is on the money, I haven't seen a single sIlo disappear. Isn't that what the "One AT&T" effort was supposed to a decade ago?
Funny, Who said automation? For a silo company would be difficult ...specially if you are part of the never finish a project IT teams, to automate alone you need to share resources first, this is something that does not exist at AT ridiculous, absurd, farcical, laughable, risible, preposterous, foolish, mad, insane, idiotic, stupid, inane, silly..... just a "a ludicrous idea"
Boeing is planning to lay off 8000 employees. It seems layoffs are in the air for this year

Randall "Scrooge" Stephenson strikes again with headcount redhctions. May Randall can get Jerry Jones( Dallas Cowboys owner) to give him some lessons on business.
Will AT&T dream of electric sheep, once they go full AI? Methinks AT&T has read one too many science fiction novels. AI has made leaps and bounds, but to rely on it for customer service in place of frontline employees is just plain ludicrous at this stage. I'd bet they'd clone you and surplus you if they had the chance. They really are the 'Death Star'!!!
AT&T does not have the expertise to bring in AI type of functionality. That will never happen. In regard to automation, I have seen them try it in operations but implementing simple things like clearing up disk space or restarting processes and even here they are not able to pull it off. Trying to do this with TechMahindra resources is not helping either. This company is running around with its head cut off trying to find ways it can cut costs. No mater what they are trying to do at the end of the day it actually costs them more.
AT&Ts layoff plans rely heavily on automation. The company has partnered with a big name in this field and has been, since last year, heavily investing in the infrastructure needed to implement it company wide. Artificial Intelligence is also a big part of this automation. Some day soon when a customer chats in for something it will appear they're speaking to a person but no, it will be a robot responding and processing requests. Do your research and prepare yourselves.
Remember the failed T-Mobile deal had the board pissed and reeling. Randall have up part (or all??) of his bonus, presumably either as punishment or his own gesture. But the real chickens have come home to roost, T-Mobile, Mexico etc came with a big price to pay at the expense of everyone else. It'd be hard for me to sleep at night knowing that my repeated bad decisions caused major collateral damage. This wasn't play Monopoly money...but alas he's a great salesman whose fostered a culture of dog and pony show.
They'll be a documentary about this era similar to "wall-street". All the selling, sweet talking, bad deals juxtaposed against real innovation and workplace culture that helped change the world, i.e. Google etc.
People need to get ready. I was in the last layoff "graduation class". And sadly most who tried to stay by putting in countless resumes weren't picked. Look externally FIRST. Don't rely on getting another job at ATT. This company as been destroyed, the culture, the morale. I'm moving my services over to T-Mobile as is most of my entire family.
Look out for your bottom line and advancement, just as ATT is doing for itself.
Remember there were people on the titanic who refused to leave....along with the band. Don't be those people.
All part of the 2020 plan. If you are not a revenue producing group, you probably won't make it to 2020. AT&T is outsourcing as much as they can. This goes beyond IT and India. A lot of jobs are being outsourced to companies located in the US (I.e., CGI, IBM)... managed services, billing/collections, contract management....
There is an application consolidation going on of over 100 apps. This might explain potentially large layoffs.
ATT has a surplus call every week for all those who are surplussed. Each week there is a new batch of people being surplussed. Every week, small numbers that add up to big numbers by year end but do not have to be reported.
Folks, the announcements are required when the number exceeds a certain percentage of employees. That's why your examples of 400-500 didn't come with announcements. 500 is too small a percentage of 275,000. The OP said 30-40% of the entertainment division. That would be in the 10s of thousands. Definitely enough to trigger an announcement.
And yes, I agree there will definitely be some layoffs in 2Q. Just not the whole 30-40% all at one time.
I'm not sure the number the original poster provided is correct, but there are definitely layoffs coming in April and May.
Book it.
The best thing AT&T can do is lay off all Level 3+ managers. Most of them are what I call are spreadshitters, the only thing they can do is make spreadsheets.
Milk the cow dry, while it last,
485 in my group were laid off last year. No mention of it in the news. They cut large numbers across multiple markets which is what keeps a lot of it out of the news. There were conference calls today confirming every group under Glenn Laurie will be impacted.
Company laid off almost 500 people in Houston and it barely made a blip in the news
It doesn't have to happen overnight Several call centers in local area went from hundreds of employees several years ago to less than 150 The pressure to sell is incredible and targets are readjusted higher every quarter resulting in not meeting target resulting in company terminating employee It's a no win situation for the employee
They laid of that percentage in my organization a year ago. Hundreds! It was not reported on the news.
Doubtful. AT&T has been very careful to lay off small numbers at a time to keep from having to make official announcements. I don't see them making a large cut like that all of a sudden. It's more likely that they plan to cut that many between now and 2020.
Good source?
Wow. That is a massive layoff.
