Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Company Operated Starbucks!

So how are big shots enjoying their Latte’s in their company operated Starbucks? Maybe they’ll rename it the Thad P Memorial Starbucks. Brilliant! Valuing Each and Every Associate one layoff at a time!

Maybe the company operated Starbucks is the only profitable venture they have left. Layoffs, benefit cuts and no raise is the only way the family can get their dividends. So how long can that be sustainable?

And ever since, they haven't restocked the K cup vending machine. Sure, make everyone pay 2 bucks or more for coffee, instead of letting the vending company get 75 cents. And no employee discounts. A-holes!!!

So Follett paid to remodel the Starbucks and has Follett employees running the store? But they outsourced marketing? I guess our core business is barista specialists. Having a Starbucks in Tower 3 is really important to the future of the company? We may be close to understanding the instrumental flaw in the decision making process at Follett. I read some of the previous comments as sarcasm...kind of like, let them eat cake. No marketing but really good coffee.

Yeah, I don't understand a comment like that either. So, because a company lost all that money, the industry is in decline with a shift in where students buy their books and some questionable decisions (Neebo?), it's the employee who was a "poor performer?" To what metrics do you apply, other than simply being the ones let go, do you cite as your basis for such an insensitive and untrue remark? Those of us who were let go, were not let go through any fault of our own. We worked just as hard as anyone else but with cuts coming no matter what, we were the unfortunate ones - mainly, those with less time in their positions than any others. I'm so glad you're perfect and work so much harder than the rest of us. Your work ethic is inspiring. I'm sorry, you're probably just getting done with a hard day's work while those of us who are now unemployed because we were such poor performers must now end our dinner breaks and get back online to what is now our full time job: finding new employment - hopefully with a company that would never employ someone like you!

That is some bad karma you are putting out there. There were many talented performers that were laid off over the past three years at Follett....just look at the financial results. Losing a job/career is a difficult and devastating problem for those impacted. Look at the last three years, and unless you are a family member I can confidently predict that you will be laid off over the next three years.

Regarding Starbucks, the company was very clear when they took over responsibility for the Westbrook store, there is no employee discount - AT ALL. Anyone can enjoy Starbucks....just get your purse out.

Too bad those that were laid off don't get to enjoy it. But they were all poor performers and deserved to be laid off so you can enjoy your perk. Maybe when you get laid off they'll dedicate it to you!

I love Starbucks! I think it's a perk, not a penalty. Not to mention caffeine improves my work performance by like 200%!

So Follett paid to remodel Starbucks in the HO and staffs it with Follett associates? They laid off whole departments and did that? I guess expensive coffee is part of the new core business. Unbelievable!
