How Does Someone Get Randomly Selected for an EWA Assignment?

Just curious, is it by luck, age, job title?

I know someone who was RIF'd that did not have EWA duty. I think they cut the top salaried employees, albeit with some discretion. I know someone in my group who was making more than me but did not get RIF'd.

Look for another job. My VP said it was random in May. Then amazingly when 15 of 25 people under her in BR, it was ALL people who had EWA assignments. It was obvious she was lying about it being random. Thankfully, I have a better job now at a more employee friendly company, but Alissa Van Volkom will forever be a cowardly liar.

This is how it works. Every Business Unit was asked for a fixed number. The B/U leader would then ask his/her directors to provide their list/ranking. There's typically a coordinator within each B/U that handles assignments. They usually start with the initial list and start picking. If and when an employee left or got RIF'd, the coordinator would pick another person to backfill as it is a zero sum game. In other words, if the B/U was asked for 500 people, even if they laid off all 500, they'd still be required to produce another 500. As you can imagine, they might have started with "non-essential" employees but it'd eventually get to the essential ones. Of course, all the newly assigned ones would not have gone through training and they'd be less ready. Hope this helps.

If you have a EWA you are considered non-essential by management. How do I know this? Because most of the people who were slated to travel out of state for EWA in August were laid off since then.

So the takeaway from this is that if you have a EWA you should be looking for another job because it's just a matter of time. Sorry for the reality check.

If your Director, Manager or Supervisor dont like you they can deem you non-essential and assign you to an out-of-state EWA to punish you.

It's funny how people are selected, they're marked as non-essential by management...you're going to be blind to it ...just like your talent rating

I used to beleive it was based on the skill profile we were required to fill out online in your info. But after last strike duty and a new director, I deleted all the information in an effort to make it harder for the 'selectors' to determine skill matches.

I was selected again this time, which is a crock of shit since there are so many people who have yet to work strike duty.....my fault for thinking they would pick people who had yet to experience the joy of working EWA. I knoe people who volunteered this time, and also a few who were able to switch job types with others who were willing to swap for differing experiences. Enough with the damn training though! I've got a fulltime job already, I don't have time to keep working on a skill that may never come about.
