Former Verizon CEO Ivan seidenberg was a human being. He started out as a splicer and worked his way up to the top position. Even when he became CEO, he seemed to understand that A) your workers are assets, and a big part of the reason the corporation is making money and B) There needs to be an American middle class with spare money in their pockets in order to buy your products. I hate to say it but the current CEO seems to be nothing but a corporate automaton. Probably cares more what the Wall St puppet masters think of him than anything else in the whole world. Now, I've got a stock portfolio too and I want it to do well, but I also want all people that are willing to get up and go to work everyday to have a decent lifestyle and retirement security. Some moral person is going to have to step up and figure out the middle ground between what Wall St wants and what the whole American working class needs.

Actually, No hard feelings whatsoever. I at least, and I know others as well have been proud to work at a unionized landline company that pays its workers well and provides good benefits.

Exactly what the hell did you expect the union to do for you when the executives took your management pensions away? What you really should have done was all you lower level managers should have approached the union twenty years ago and organized. I'm sure the union would have loved to represent thousands of managers if asked to, but the company tricked you into thinking they love ya and would never do you wrong, and so you didn't think you needed representation. Craft and lower level mangers are in the same boat. It's apparent the upper management feels the same way about you as they do about the union worker, which is that you are just an impediment to their big bonuses. So now you've got hard feelings at the union person for still having a pension, instead of at the people who took it away? Pretzel logic.

Ivan was also a platoon leader and decorated veteran in the vietnam war. These new clowns cant wipe their own ass

Of course, he frooze our pensions when many of us were in our 40's, which saved peanuts, which he was desperate to do, mostly after horendous megers that gave him !0's of millions in bonus payouts, and used the $24bil overfunded pension fund to pay severance,so he could keep his huge bonus payouts. If you know his true history, he was one of the key leaders in selling out his employees, for the benefit of a few corperate elites. And, the ongoing destruction of the middle class.
OP you are so right. Ivan had future vision, he wanted to build a company for generations to come. I won't say he didn't line his pockets but he worked more effectively with the Union. Ivan didn't have a mission to break the union. Top guy today does, he wants all union employees out little by little piece by piece and he has been effectively doing so since he took over. What were the union numbers when Ivan left and what are they today?
