CWA 1118 A Strike of Epic Proportion and Duration ?

Union Tape Message

Wednesday, 2/17/16

Brothers and Sisters,

As you are well aware we continue to work without a contract and over the past 9 months your bargaining team has diligently participated in the bargaining process. Their efforts and your mobilization activities have yielded minimal results. The Union has attempted to solidify an agreement that reflects the competitive challenges that Verizon faces, while securing the future of our members. We are all discouraged by Verizon’s unreasonable demands. The simple truth is that Verizon is a highly profitable company because of your efforts and abilities.

We have offered them many solutions not only at the bargaining table, but also within the workplace. Verizon’s bargaining representatives continue to disrespect our members by not truly engaging in practical negotiations. That is why they continue to provide you with misleading bargaining reports and fabricated operational constraints.

Allow over a hundred members to be permanently transferred to new reporting points. In many cases, these members would be permanently transferred to reporting points that are over 75 additional commuting miles.

Allow temporary transfers (including involuntary forced transfers) to assignments in another state of up to 120 days at any time during a calendar year. Meaning that ANYONE, regardless of title, could be transferred for up to 120 days a year to assignments, anywhere, to and from New England, New York, New Jersey and the Mid-Atlantic States. Of course, if there is an emergency or another out of state assignment then the 120 day limit would not apply.

Allow the company to declare a surplus condition under the Force Adjustment Plan in a title and organization within an Article 8 Unit Area. Meaning they want to have the ability to declare a surplus by title within our Local (which they have now twice a year) but only offer it to you if you happen to work in the right organization. (Plant)

Allow the company to declare a surplus condition by job title and ITA.

After a meeting with members of your bargaining team we have decided to inform you that a strike is imminent. This decision is not made easily and is based on the failures at the bargaining table. These failures are not a reflection of your bargaining teams efforts, but of Verizon’s lack of appreciation towards their most valuable asset, you. Nothing seems to move Verizon off their retrogressive demands, not our counter proposals, not our mobilization tactics, not even their record profits.

You should brace yourself and your family for a strike of epic proportion and duration. Our recommendations are to avoid major purchases, work as much overtime as you can, and save-save-save. Additionally, a proactive strategy to sustain a strike is your ability to seek alternative employment. As a CWA member you will receive strike pay from the member relief fund and New York State offers unemployment benefits to Union members who participate in a lawful strike.

Your bargaining team is committed to reach an agreement, so committed that talks continue without meaningful progress. However, it would be inappropriate not to give you an honest opinion and a reasonable expectation.

In Unity,

The Union is negotiating with a CEO who was offered the Iphone exclusively from Apple, and said I'll pass let AT&T have it, That phone doesn't look like something I'd be interested in. A CEO, who was approached by Netflix early on for an exclusive deal, and said I'll pass, Red box is the best bet for me. A CEO who paid $1,400.000.000 Billion dollars for a company called Terremark, a cloud system who's industry is controlled by Microsoft and Amazon just about exclusively. Lowell called it his baby...Closed yesterday, out of business. 1.4 Billion Gone literally. A CEO who paid 4.4 Billion for AOL, A deal that is the laughing stock of the industry, not my words theres A CEO who paid a whopping $130,000,000,000 Billion dollars for the remaining stake in Vodaphone. Most of that borrowed money, and now still owes over a 110 Billion dollars to the banks on that gem. A CEO that is in now running out of money, and is forced to sell it's profitable Fiber Network in 14 states including California, Florida, and Texas for cash. the list goes on and on, How many more failures do you need to see, for you to realize this guy is lost in a clueless fog. This is a CEO that is in charge of negations with the Unions, and the members who built this company. A CEO who is single handily destroying this once proud company by his own INCOMPETENCE. This is a CEO who's track record has proven beyond any doubt, he severely miscalculates business decisions. It's proven over and over. Lowell McAdam is clueless to the resolve of the 35,000 Union members, and this WILL BE yet another Lowell McAdam miscalculation, that's for sure. He hasn't made a right move yet.....he's going to start now???

Unions haven't done shit for you in how long .. keep sitting on your ss.es and taking tour time doing orders. You will all slowly be let go with the union mentality. I remember when I was just out of school and I was working orders I was met by 2 union "gentleman " who explained to me that I was doing too much and I needed to slow down! That UNION mentality made me move on to bigger and better things and now I love watching your unions struggle. Get off your asses and work....maybe just maybe they will just give you good raises like the rest of us get. Unions are your problem

90% of the union jobs would be done well by managment.

this is the funniest thing i have seen written to date.

all these pussies know how to do well is frame people up and hand out discipline.

The is not going to be a strike.

The Union would LOSE big time.

90% of the union jobs would be done well by Managment.

The so called Pencil pushers, designed most of the network.

Cusotmer service can be handled.

Last strike, a 30 day backlog was fixed in 2 weeks.

If you strike, most of you will not have jobs, and Verizon, will say, This is your new contract, if you want to come back.

Best thing is to sit it out and wait.

Raise will be retroactive.

Benefits will drop, just like the rest of us.

Disclaimer. I am in Software, and do not have an EWA at this point.

I would rather not see a strike, and see a good contract for the union.

The union must also realize, the landlines are going away.

Verizon is looking at 5G for the last mile, in 10 years or less, copper will be gone, and everything will be on a virtural network. (maybe 15 years, but not much longer)

You cannot reason or negotiate with someone like lowell UNLESS you have more money and power than him. He is an insecure bully in every sense, on his best day.

Nobody likes the dude, regulators, the feds, other CEOs, even his own neighbors were happy and willing to let union members setup in their front yards to picket the miserable SOB. Customers hate verizon. Look up the various complaint boards around the web. The stories are embarrassing and sad about how customers are treated.

The guy is just a old, out of touch, uptight, yet whinny little cry baby, acting the opposite of what he preaches. He gets a kick out of stuff like this board, screwing with his employees, trying to stick it to other utilities.

His business background is very limited as in he knows how to sell a product that was in high demand, then nickel and dime for the extras. However when the seas got choppy his business sense is absent, he simply does not have the tools in his tool box, and this old dog can't learn any new tricks. His business SOP is greed, lies, smoke & mirrors, and intimidation. Deception and unethical behavior run rampant here now because he encourages that type of behavior by his actions.

Back when men could be men this guy wouldn't act like this. He knows it, and so do most of his older employees. He would be ousted, or worse. However greed is rampant in business and his tongue weaves a web of lies that can be sold to the board, investors, and the street.

He is just waiting everyone out, spending money to convince the public, his customers, his younger employees that his way is the only way.

In fact his way is the wrong way.

How much longer can this go on? I'd say not much.

Steady lads & lasses, steady. Don't do anything hasty. 40 days to go and the Union and the company can kill each other in a death fight, cos I'll be gone to Frontier..

For the last 6+ months the wife and I have had our lives held to ransom by vz EWA assignment and the threat of a union strike. The constant worry of being dragged off to that world class $hithole, New Jersey, has dominated many Friday night conversations, as we sat ensconced in a favored Malibu restaurant, watching the Californian sun slowly sink into the west.

I would report to her that vz had reminded all EWA management little people (ppl like me) to stay "frosty" (military speak from long ago) and be ready to fulfill our EWA assignments. My wife would read the blogs on this site trying to gauge the union's resolve in the negotiations. Sometimes, a troll would claim a strike was imminent. Stressed, she would cry out " oh gosh, I hope they don't go on strike. How can they (vz) even think to send you to such a terrible place like that, it's inhuman."As the days have turned to weeks, then months, both of us have begun to hope I could escape my EWA assignment.

After months of the Union being virtually moribund, what's 40 more days, right?

Union must not get emotional request mediation if you feel your case is strong. Deep down the union leadership knows it doesn't have a good argument and would probably get a crap sandwich from the mediator. Proving once and fall all union leaders not their members are only in it for themselves and weird no power

I wonder if Lowell will come and visit you in the hospital after you have a heart attack from actually having to go out and work? Enjoy that extra money you p.o.s.

Why do we think Lowell McAdam is so smart and wise in these negotiations, when every deal he has done with Verizon has be a miscalculated failure. Why do we think he has something up his sleeve, or all of a sudden, he has become some kind of genius? This guy is a pure dope, and the industry knows this, They take advantage of him, Vodafone, AOL, Terremark, forced to sell a dozen states of fiber. it's been failure after failure for this guy. and now he's smart? if the Union walks tomorrow, he will have once again miscalculated as he always does, and be caught with his pants down and helpless. He will be a failure one more time.

35,000 union skilled and professional positions CAN NOT be successfully fulfilled by pencil pushing, key stroking management and improperly trained outside scabs. We must strike and we must ALL picket beyond our minimum time frames. Go to job sites & wireless stores in large groups and have our voices heard by the public both directly and through local media. Management and temporary scabs would drop like flies after a couple weeks of actually having to work, plus all of the additional stress they will have to endure by having to work 7 day weeks, in many cases far away from their families. Please DO NOT underestimate both the quality of work we do and the amount of stress and pressure that we have been forced to endure through this incompetent management team. We CAN NOT accept a lesser contract and MUST DEMAND that our laid off members be brought back. God Bless our members.
