Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Why would you

Why would you try to transform a communications company into a wireless entertainment company, is this a wise move, If they would stop dumping all the debt on wireline it would be very profitable.

sgo it reads to me like they are referring to past tense where there was a mutal loyalty. The new crew destroyed any loyalty. So now they reap what they hace sewn. Oh, well. I guess they are going the route of the old AT&T to the failure stage where only the history of the name holds any value.

Sounds like an AMWAY or Avon, except VZ lomac and shamwow will never be driving the pink cadillac, that is for certain. Neither will the shareholders or the employees. It really is hard to imagine how or why a bunch of wireless nitwits would trade away a bunch of good assets for a bunch of pipe dreams. Perhaps they are heartbroken that Madmen has ended.

Why would you .... try to transform a communications company into a wireless entertainment company - As time will tell - There are many many people making money a ton of money off of this stupid premise... Everyone except the shareholders and last but not least.... the dedicated REAL employees. May the ghost of Verizon rest in peace

about: What could a bunch of badly dressed guys 'n gals from wireline/wireless, who are neither shiny or new, possible have to offer "Star Ship Verizon? "

loyalty from the former employees and $$$ from the customer. the third world has no serious money to pay our dividend and the new shiney employees have neither technical talent or an ability to seriously take care of the customer. And none have any loyalty. All day long all they do is look for new jobs. It really is an embarrassment that the also ran CEO of airtouch would succeed Ivan. Even shamwow is more BS and bluster than street smart and savvy. I heard a rumor that terramark was his idea. It will be good to be gone in the next go around. Ihope. It really is getting sick in there. Almost like a cult.

7/8 years back I was invited into a conference room in Basking Ridge simply because I was passing by the room. In the next hour or so some senior person gave a speech with slides, which showed vz at the time as a wireline company that was government regulated. Later, another set of slides showed where vz wanted to be, which was in an unregulated industry. In an unregulated industry vz could compete in the open market place, which meant they could set their own prices. A major cornerstone of the "new" vz was VZW. Graphs showed detailed plans of how, using landline profits, vz would funnel money into the VZW network to build out coverage, which at the time was a big issue for both vz & att. What I didn't know at first was Ivan was also in the presentation, at the back of the room and afterwards, IMHO, he was less than convinced about robbing Peter to pay Paul. Since then Ivan has gone and with the arrival of McAdam, with a wireless background, vz has rapidly become increasingly focused on first wireless and more recently, more and more on media content. Belief in media content is absolute for McAdam. I and a number of other middle management nobodies were flown out to Indianapolis race track so vz could show off the latest shiny new prize, sponsorship of the race track. A posh lunch, actually sumptuous lunch, with Brazillian race driver Juan Pablo Montoya and a chance to ride in a formula car as a passenger with 73 year old Mario Andretti confirmed 100%, at least in my mind, VZs desire to be with the rich, gleatzy people. Question? What is gleatzy about reliable landline internet service for joe public and businesses? Give that person a cigar.........Nothing. With McAdam and his crew in place the stage was set and the transformation from blue collar wireline oinks to super star wireless was off and running. Today wireless build out is complete and is a mature industry. The glory days for wireless people are gone forever, hence the brutal layoffs. Apps are the new shiny toy for vz, hence Go90, Hum etc. Leading them to play kiss up to Indian code writers for apps that are new and shiny. Sporting events offers gleatz, so massive vz sponsorship is often present. What could a bunch of badly dressed guys 'n gals from wireline/wireless, who are neither shiny or new, possible have to offer "Star Ship Verizon? "

Read the Bruce Kushnick articles at Huffpost. If only one tenth the stuff he claims is true, then Verizon has been getting away with murder.

@FlwENX3-uwv is a company fool. Conetent is a dime a dozen and all over. Being able to access that content is what puts money in the bank at Verizon.

When Ivan left FiOS was really on its deathbed, because its not wireless. The supposed leadership are nothing but a bunch of overpaid morons. Trash FiOS but buy aol. The adults have clearly left the company.

FIOS is the best thing this company has done. Those who don't have it want it, those who have it know it. Sooner or later the brains will understand the FIOS build is the only way to survive. The trouble is the network is being built with union hands, that really upsets the brains. It's possible the build stopped because of this.

It's all about content today, access/tech is commodity (unless you are cutting edge) - content, fresh content, is the king

Because Silicon Valley and Hollywood gets the c-suite excited, and providing good connectivity and good customer service does not. If Americans only knew what these fools were really up to, there would be a big problem for VZ. Investors are only interested in the dividend and cash flow that funds that dividend. That cash flow comes from communications not advertising. Every single investment in anythint not supporting the core of the business has not turned out as planned. Glad to be gone before they completely wreck the place. Just need to get a good price now for all of that stock! I should have sold it when they started forcing out the longtime execs a couple of years ago.

It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now maybe not.
