So, after looking at the Southeast surplus, looks like AT&T doesn't care about their service anymore. Lots of system and digital tech positions gone. These are the guys that install/test/repair equipment out in the field. Either their outsourcing or jobs going to lower paying positions (DirectTV techs?). The reason given is "Technological/Operational Efficiency". Looks like "2020" came much sooner.....

Yes , at&t is using contractors and hiding/covering it up more and more. I'm a Systems Technician in South Florida. Workload for US is very slow. Not for contractors. Techs are sitting around the office hoping for work. In the meantime , other at&t units are quietly sending the work straight to third parties. They are supposed to first send the work request to the local area managers for "first right of refusal". They simply ignore the rules /contract most of the time. There's plenty of work available. It's just not being routed to at&t technicians. Because of this, A new round of layoffs occurs the following quarter because "workload is slow' and "unproductivity is up". It's all by design. at&t is methodically surplusing techs based on lies.
AT&T technological Bubble is bursting, is like most American telecom Corporations. They will NOT bring back those jobs because they don't have to pay benefits and its less overhead. Plus the Corporate boys get bigger bonuses. Its called bottom line, and that is bad for US telecom workers, What do you think??
The problem at AT&T is that when getting their numbers and quotas, they forget they are dealing with humans and not robots. They claim they have a tough time getting skilled workers, Many have a degrees, and they don't want to pay anymore than they would a person with no degree. Its not skilled workers they are worried about, its overhead. If you have educated skilled workers, you can't pay bottom of the barrel and maintain personnel.
