Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

one good thing about cost reductions ...

At least one good thing has come out of the 'getting more efficient' drive in Chevron. As of January 1, 2016 D&C employees (at least DWEP) no longer have to submit a mandatory behavior-based safety (BBS) observation per month. While it did make sense in the field, it was total nonsense for office-based employees with 99% of all observations being elevator/escalator/stairs usage and the occasional 'jay walking' entry for the crossing between 1400 and 1600 Smith.

After they also increased the HUET requirement from 3 years to 4 years in 2015, I wonder what is next. Maybe a commentary drive only every other year ?

Just get rid of all those useless CBT module. I hate having to take time to go through them to just check a box to make useless management happy.

I totally agree, 1fxc. Chevron will not be a strong company nor ever be an industry leader. I've traded out of my CVX stock since June 2014 and never got back in.

Agreed. BBS observations are ridiculous on the surface however it makes sense to keep office personnel aligned with Chevron's focus on safety. However - with the lack of work / drilling spreads presently employed - what else is there for highly compensated DEs/CEs to do? As a shareholder, I would love to see more dead wood trimmed. Chevron is a business - let's make a reasonable profit in addition to rewarding shareholders with their investment dividend. Businesses exist to make money - if labor salaries exceeds profits - reductions are imperative. Business 101.

When the smoke clears, what will the remaining Chevron workforce look like? With all the nepotism and PC controlled hiring and promotion practices, it is not going to be a pleasant environment.

Do away with all these "waste of time" periodic safety observations. They are unproductive. Just make every employee sign a form once a year or take an online course claiming to have watched a corporate safety video that covers the general safety and reporting policies of the company. Now the catch, just fail to report an incident you were a witness to or suffer an accident yourself... and you are reprimanded. Two reprimands in 3 years and you are fired. One serious accident for not following any safety standard and you are fired. If you don't like the periodic safety observations, then you must agree to be accountable for your actions. Accountable means Fired.
