Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Did your health insurance "change" in the middle of last year?

I swear I'm not trolling. Something seemed to happen to my Chevron Health insurance around late July to early August 2015. Before that, claims were all approved immediately. After that, every single claim was denied until I called to have them resubmitted. Even claims that I have called for in advance and was told would be approved were denied. Some claims, they refused to resubmit. The wording also changed in my health insurance providers "benefits" when I looked on their website. Note: I EOI'd and have been "laid off".

This happen to anyone else?

Thanks, OP, for pointing out the Affordable Care Act (ACA) introduced a change to our mid-term insurance benefits. Please pass the word to HR to get a letter or mass email out to every employee about these changes in benefits. This lack of communication is inexcusable in Chevron and HR is responsible. I bet they tell you "it's on the HR website".

I'm the OP. It definitely has to do with ACA. Mid-year part of my benefits changed to "everything in this category is approved" to "everything in this category is approved under ACA guidelines-exceptions apply". So it 100% has something to do with ACA. No trolling, no political discussion. But it has at least something to do with the ACA. So far it hasn't happened to anyone else who has posted...and as far as I know it only changed 1 category of care that was covered 100% no deductible.

@iru - What does Obamacare have to do with THIS discussion? Contribute something or just read on you troll.

It has to do with Oblama care. I told you not to vote for him, now look at what you've done. You have made a mess of everything.

I am retired from Chevron. I've always had dental coverage through United Concordia DHMO (not the PPO) Plan. As an employee and now a retiree, there hasn't been any change in the terms of service. If you are in the PPO dental plan, the billing errors could be due to mis-coding ADA codes for the service you received. Hopefully the problem doesn't have to do with any lapse in payment.

If there is/was cost cutting, they would put that in writing to you in your separation package...The company does what is within the law and what applies to your individual personal status with the company...They are not the bad guys...they have proved that over the last 10 years...When oil price is high we over hire and over spend! They would continue that forever I believe, but when the oil price and market dictates otherwise they must make corrections....Oil and Gas business always has a 7 year cycle, up and down again. We are on the down low now...but nowhere else to go but up! Market dictates when that will happen...USA producers do not control the market...just give it time.

I have only called in to verify coverage maybe twice in 24 years with the company. Only once in 24 years I was out for 2 weeks after knee torn menincus surgery..So my experience has been very positive and I am so thankful to have had great insurance with Texaco/Chevron in my many years with the company. So sorry you have not had the same great experience..

This dose not make any sense...I have worked with the company over 24 years and there has never been an issue with what you are talking about..How long have you worked for a major company? I have worked with Anadarko, BP, Texaco and Chevron. Just read the information you receive in the mail about your benefits...The company has always been forthcoming about these benefits in mailings and email...

No, I was speaking more of service quality and the insurance provider generally approving reasonable claims. I was wondering if part of the cost cutting included healthcare costs-it would make sense. I am still enrolled somehow even though it's past my coverage end date and my COBRA hasn't kicked in. I was told Chevron would just keep it going if I signed the waiver-doesn't sound true but working so far. Thanks for posting folks, I suppose I am just paranoid now that I have more free time on my hands.

Could also just be the service provider getting used to ACA...they are having some issues as well.

That's a bit strange. You were on the payroll and a Chevron employee during those 60 days. If your paycheck statement shows Chevron was deducting dental premiums for the period you had the dental services, you were covered. Call Chevron HR a service Center at 1-888-TALK2HR and get them to sort things out. I've had a few problems resolved by calling them. Keep all your paperwork for the dental services in order and keep good notes on when and who you talked to. Keep in mind you can get Dental coverage thru COBRA for up to 18 months. It's not subsidized by Chevron. Cost for United Concordia Dental HMO for two persons is $41.50 per month. Chevron retiree cost for 2 is $30.70. I hope you get the matter resolved soon. Good luck and Happy New Year.

My dentist's office told me that the claims submitted for reimbursement for my dental insurance was not processed, for a service provide before I was officially terminated (within the 60 day period after we were terminated).

I'm not sure of the exact cause for the problems you experienced with your medical insurance. But, you did mention you separated from the company after being laid off. I'm sorry to hear this. Is it possible your problems stem from not being enrolled properly through ADP COBRA Services? Remember that Chevron covers you for the entire month in which you were terminated (i.e. If laid off June 1, you are covered through June 30). Everyone who is laid off needs to enroll asap in COBRA medical through ADP COBRA Services to not have a break in medical coverage. Chevron subsidizes your medical insurance through COBRA for 6 months. The subsidy is very generous and ensures your medical insurance costs you exactly the same as it did when you were working. In any case, I hope the problems you are experiencing are resolved quickly.

I want to add that I'm not looking for advice or consolation. Just wondering if anyone else noticed or I'm just crazy.
