Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Let's discuss WELLSAFE. Grown adult men approving a process that adds millions to CAPEX spending to meet & fulfill words printed in black ink.

The intent is noble. Process and execution is unbearable. Does not protect shareholder value at all. Should be a deepwater only process. RUMS & CWT are not

Enough, an internal corporate auditor must police the engineers. How many times have I heard ...."yes but Wellsafe requires this."

We do not run paperwork into the hole!!!!

What's sad is Chevron well control is not very good. On paper it looks stringent, but in reality is sucks. A lack of the understanding of risk has led us down a path that is not sustainable and downright dangerous. The gaming scenarios we have decided upon approach the ridiculous. Especially land based wells. A production plug is a temporary barrier by definition. There is no argument there. And stabbing a well to place a temporary plug is ludicrous. This created much more risk. It is never uniform through the Chevron and many just ignore this craziness. Worst case scenerio of plausible risk. The shit they come up with shows a fundamental lack of understanding. So lacking, it blows back people when they first come to Chevron.

No, @1mos, this is like requiring the folks at the airline check-in counter to be licensed pilots, just on the remote chance that they may at some point be a passenger on the plane. Besides, you can't profess to calling yourself the Clear Leader without paying quite a sizable chunk of change to impress upper management. Btw, on the subject of Dave, be on the lookout for a BMW SUV in the downtown Houston Chevron garage; the one with the personalized Texas license plates that read "CLR LDR". That's our boy Dave! He usually parks it on the north end of the reserved 4th floor, right in the middle of the curve, as you are driving further up to one of the higher peon parking floors. If you see a white Corvette Stingray there instead, that must mean that his wife has the Beamer for that day. Oh, and if you happen to see him ask him how he got a new lift gate on the SUV. Apparently, he has a hard time following his own GARAGESAFE checklist...

Well said: 1xvs. Totally agreed with you. Dave's ambitious dream of world class well control expertise for every single employees in the D&C team is impractical. Office engineers and Drilling managers and completion managers that hardly venture out to the rig are required to be fully competent in well control. They spent months in the office studying for the test, one week out of office to sit in the $5000 class, rake up $5000 to $8000 in air ticket for those who fly in to attend the class from overseas, one week of hotel stay, meal, car rental and miscellaneous expenses. Yet these guys are in the most remote possibility of operating on the drill floor. Well control should be leave to the driller, the full time DSM. This is like the scenario of requiring all flight attendants to be licenced pilot in case the need to chip in to fly the plane. Nice idea but at great expense to the company.

It's because old Davey boy only knows drilling. Now everyone must know how to work a choke even if you don't go offshore or you would be number 100 in line to operate it. It's the only thing he knows so you must learn it. Do we require our engineers to know API, ASME or any other engineering code out there but we require them to take a made up chevron class. Money well spent.

Only millions? Billions must be sacrificed at the altar of WellSafe. Find more safeguards that are orders of magnitude more costly than the most severe, impossible consequence!
