We were told the DTV work will be "transitioned" to others to allow concentration on "core" ATT wireline work. Well we have no core wireline work and most now think it was all a scam to get contractors up to speed by having our installers get it going after purchase.
AT&T's move is to get rid of the DTV installers and move it over to the uverse prem techs since uverse is fading away. The unions fell behind the company in agreeing to the DTV buy thinking more job creation.....not true....support going overseas.....AT&T hires more contractors when it shows that the uverse techs can't keep up with the workload..
Att techs wont be kept for long. To continue to downsize they will be offered to be contractors or work for a company doing the DTV installs like the majority of the DTV is now.
the only bump will be the union losing dues. Expect them to attempt to stop the move.
Fewer, bigger companies often mean less competition, with less incentive to innovate, Why would you keep U-Verse, when Dtv can be setup from Mumbai, at almost not cost to AT&T, the union contract woill last say 3 years? I was very concerned when I heard about this . . . and my fears have been realized. DirecTV has . . . or, now, I should say, HAD . . . the best customer service I've ever encountered. AT&T? The worst. Guess which way the balance is shifting? Yup. When I used to call DirecTV, I'd talk to some guy in Jacksonville. Tonight, I called DirecTV, and spoke w/ "Jeremy" in Mumbai
I'm a Directv contractor...this has bad written all over it. The att techs we run into in the field hate this move...they want no part of being trained on how satellite tv works...u think uverse sucked....let an att guy install your dish....I dare ya....This is hilarious
