Do you guys know what package I might be getting as I will likely be cut very quickly (no work, sitting on the bench for way too long)… I’ve been around about three plus years – also what’s your opinion about COBRA coverage – is it worth it expense? I am still fairly young and single and the price looks a bit steep – my plan is to take my severance and travel as much as I can… Please let me know.

I have seen a scenario where the experienced long term employees unknowingly trained their replacements, only to be handed a WFR notices soon after completion of the training. Eliminated positions were immediately filled by trained young employees. Also, few months later other people were handed WFR notices, although their positions still exist. Of course only the older employees with many years of service were targeted for WFR. The rule seems to be - WFR anyone over 40 years old with many years of service (but not the management).
HPE is getting away with illegal practices.
I got laid off on 12/16/2016. 28 years total service. 5 years ago I left and then returned after a year. They screwed me on severance giving credit for years as of last hire date. Always had good reviews. Reason given was "you do not work at a core site". Age 56. Must sign agreement not to sue or lose out on $6000 payment. Hewlett and packard would be very disappointed.
Typical HP. And guess what they have crested a layoff date for every employee in Enterprise Services whole Meg. Sends jobs off shore. In fact managers are banned from hiring anyone on shore without a VP level 2, and above approval. I know I am a current manager and I have seen the list. It's all about getting rid of long term emoyees.
You also cannot be hired by a contractor doing work for an HPE account. This happened to a friend of mine. He was laid off 2 weeks ago, and was immediately offered a position by a contracting firm on an HPE account that had been begging for people with his qualifications for a long time. The contractor had to back out of the offer because HPE would not accept him, even as a contractor.
In response to whether or not you can get rehired after an unsuccessful redeployment attempt (within 60 days of WFR)... if you were WFRd after 2012, and have not been rehired, you cannot be re-hired. It's a policy that has been in place for awhile. This is to prevent the possibility of a second package offering (another WFR). The same policy is in place if you have taken an early retirement package after 2012; you cannot be re-hired after receiving a retirement package.
They changed the plan again for the April 2016 layoff .... From 60% to 40% for the service beyond 11 years. I would not be surprised to see a class action suit filed against HP/HPE for their continued shenanigans.
The best part about the HPE layoff package is that WFR'd employees only have a 60 day window to be redeployed/rehired. After the 60 days period from your last day of employment with HPE has ended, and you haven't been able to find another position (redeployed) within HPE, you're ineligible for rehire FOREVER. You can never be hired by HPE again for the rest of your life. "You've been a great employee for the past 10 years but now we think you're not so good anymore and we're not interested in ever hiring you again. Thank you!". Its unreal HPE treats people this way...
In early February, I was informed by my manager at HPE that my job had been eliminated. In addition, I was told that the severance package at HPE had been changed so that employees with over 11 years of service would receive 60% less in severance pay. However, there is no change to HPE’s severance package for employees with eleven years or less in service (younger employees). We are expected to believe it is just a coincidence that the WFRs for so many older employees at HPE occurred just days after the new severance policy was implemented.
Pathetic. Glad they let me go earlier.
Cobra cost varies, tied to single $510 vs. covering spouse 1100/mo vs. a friend in TX with a family was quoted $1800+ /mo. You should compare on the Obama exchange too. Annual open enrollment ended but layoff is valid reason to sign up off-cycle.
Just don't think you're going to travel far on the reduced severance, effective 1 Feb
This is really unfair for those who have been laid off before 2016. HP enterprise is a really bad company.
Bad management, bad system and unfair treatment for the severance payment. I will tell my friends never work for this company!!
On the HP layoff board, there is a recent post about their modified severance policy. Essentially 11 weeks pay minimum, and 2 days pay for each year of service beyond 11 years. This is a reduction from the 1 week of pay past 11 years of service.
