That sounds impressive until you realize that AT&T doesn’t actually list a president among its top execs. Stephenson is chairman and CEO. There’s a group president but the holder of that job is actually “chief strategy officer.”, what a joke!!
yes wishing him hell and satan IS EXTREME!!! He is a product of his enculturation. Google could IMPLEMENT this turn around. The problem is the CULTURE. It is the greed. No CEO should be making 24 million dollars a year, period. Where is HIS skin in the game. I think the bulk of his compensation should be PERFORMANCE based and not after all the shell games paid with money.
100:1 total comp package (CEO to employee) is shameful esp. when you're laying people off with all of these frugality plans.
It IS incredibly one sided. Why use the company you lead as your personal ATM. Id be more impressed, if you could figure out how to make the HUGE money with other private and other interests like real estate, your spouses company, silent partnerships, publishing/writing etc.
Why give the appearance of looting the company.
Now make no mistake. If you're making money hand over fist, then you DESERVE stock ownership/cash like any other tech company. But don't do it at the expense of creative financials. Get creative with the implementation and the product offerings. but you do that with this old stodgy way of paying CEOs. To me that is representative of the bigger issue...the thinking.
Randall is an out of touch moron. Sending customer complaints to his fleet of lawyers. Expecting customers to pay for the pipe and expecting them to be OK if AT and they give away great products for FREE in exchange. Randall wants you to pay out the ass for our second rate products and wants to steal and monetize that information at the same time.
He is going to totally blunder with whatever OTT product we launch. I'm sure they are only going to offer it in a "bundle" and the lack of "bundling" is one of the major reasons OTT video products are popular.
Can't take it out on Randall? Lol!!!! He's making $24 million or more a year and laying people off by the hundreds to cut costs. The people they are cutting wouldn't earn a fourth of his yearly salary even if the worked their entire lifetime. Good grief!! If you are going to earn that type of salary don't chalk off his poor performance to old school thinking.
You CANT really be mad at Randall...and wishing him hell is a little extreme and one sided. The problem is he's applying "old" status quo thinking to "new technology". Buy first, think later. Find the money later. You still have a THINKING and a SYSTEMS problem, even with NEW assets.
The old guard is coming down. I think it will take a lot of new and fresh ideas and people to turn this ship around. Its just sad that it has it be run into the ground first. But typically out of chaos and disorder comes some new enlightenment and ways of doing things.
So many in the trenches are in a real denial about where this is all going. I only hope that they don't wait until 3rd or 4th qtr to make some strategic moves. Start now.
