Thread regarding VMware Inc. layoffs

If you hate it so much

Why don't you quit vmware and give up your spot for someone who actually wants it.

Layoffs are hard both for the ones let go as well as their management.

|I reckon you'd be 'their management' - I feel sorry for you, you suffered laying us all off.

I can understand your animosity towards the company, and I don't blame you. I am sure that you are skilled at what you do, and do believe that you will find a great place soon.

And no, I'm not management nor did I have anything to do with the RIF. I'm and individual contributor. I Could have been on the block like anyone else.

Fact check: Nicira was acquired when Paul M was CEO and Steve H was CTO. Pat G had nothing to do with Nicira acquisition. Infact, there is a video on youtube where Pat G is questioning why Nicira was worth so much.

I would actually ague that the cause for Paul M to "rescue" the company is that EMC fired Diane G. If EMC had not fired Diane Greene, there would be no need to "rescue". VMW stock took a nose dive upon the news of the firing of Diane G.

Also, it may be true that Paul M transformed the company. However, it may also be true that the transformation would have occurred anyway with Diane G.

The Hosted UI team is being replaced. Not just dropped. Even if those new 20 were as skilled as the original team, that's a lot of institutional knowledge gone. How are those heads being "added in the right place"?

this has happened in the past..

it was around 2008-09 shares tanked to their lowest i guess, centres go closed...

Paul M resurrected the company and took it from A to B, , he was diversifying into wider datacenter arease than core strengths, acquisitions like zimbra slide rocket went off tangent..

Pat G came along.. complete shake up, focused on SDDC, Hybrid cloud..EUC, this brought the company a long way break the 6 billion revenue barrier last year

In due course centres have been closed down

there were mergers, acquisitions..very powerful and strategic ones like Airwatch and Nicira..real magic

Now its time to step up the game.. from 6 billion to 10 billion and more..

Perhaps there will be a shake up at the top or 3 powerful minds working together Dell, Tucci, Gelsinger..

Ofcourse at a micro level ppl will be let go..more heads will be added but in the right places..all in all to align with the company vision and mission. you would do the same thing...unless you are a charitable organization..

One thing for sure if VMware will rise again.. 2017 Q1 i predict...hang in there investors, employees and customers.. you will be envied by these same idiots crying out here...

Agree with the author of the post, if you are unhappy leave , the rest of us will fight this adversity and emerge stronger

silent #outsourcing at it's best - f---ers at the top are lining their pockets while destroying the country

There were 900 of us, who involuntarily "gave up" their spots for someone in China and India this week. Just to remind you!
