Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

I work on the fulfillment side. We have heard absolutely nothing, nada, zilch about any layoffs.

I work on the fulfillment side. We have heard absolutely nothing, nada, zilch about any layoffs. I saw an article online last night and emailed my FCM who only heard rumors. I've been with Staples for 8 yrs; this past year was the worst. WMOS upgrade was a disaster, SDO closures a joke. Both blew up in their face. A waste of millions of dollars, and for what? $10 mil for WMOS that sucks and re-starts SDOs after all the people and equipment is sold off. Customers got the raw deal. Our metrics will take years to recover if ever, and we get held accountable for all the crap we never had control of and they'll want some kind of action plan on our reviews like it was our fault. Time to jump ship.

Supply Chain field runs lean --no cuts, no new management hiress. Cuts were made in SC but at the higher level and in misc support. Supply Chsin should be revamped to function like the retail stores giveing the control to the FCM/SDO Managers. Shrink the corporate departments but train the managers and audit LP, Safety, Training and HR to see that the building is in compliance. That would cut out a lot of payroll--big money. Put the money in the field.

WMOS was an epic fail. Staples didn't want to pay the money to have it customized to our needs - just bought the box version, and expected it to work - WRONG. From what I've heard Amazon runs WMOS and I'm sure they wouldn't put up with the crap we do. RVP visiting for 2 days - I wonder what he'll have to say....., probably will avoid the conversation all together. I haven't been happy for a while now, guess my instincts serve me well. I'm keeping my desk cleaned off.....

Good advice for job searching. Do it now while you have a job.

Don't forget, Staples management will never, ever, tell employees about layoffs, resignations, and firings. It's seriously frowned upon to discuss it when it does happen. Management wants you to be in the dark.

Funny on the WMOS, I'm sure whatever they screwed up affected the customer too.

WMOS was a joke yes, that is completely true. There were a lot of people who still work at Staples that are the real punchline! Get your resumes ready people, don't wait too long for if you are left holding the bag it might be too late for you to get a job! If you work in Framingham area, think about it, soon the market will be saturated! Broomfield folks, the same! You make it on your own! Why do you stay around? For a pension, guess what that doesn't exist at Staples! For your seniority, guess what, that doesn't matter at Staples? For your loyalty, guess what, Management at all level doesn't matter as long as they stay employed! Ask any of the managers out there! Get your money out of the 401(k) that Staples has and get it into an IRA that you can control and do what you want with your money, Remember it is your retirement you need to do what you have to. Don't wait too long, all the people that are smart enough will be getting the good jobs. Remember you can always get a job at Walmart, or Dunkin Donuts!
