Don't worry tax time is fast approaching and Staples is set to succeed. We are stocked to the brim with bubble wrap and plastic storage totes......it's bound to be the saving grace.....

"it came down to use labor to task and sacrifice floor coverage or use labor to focus on service and let operations slide" This also allowed them to fire many managers for "performance" issues. Also, Tax season won't save Staples, but pushing the snake oil known as Liquid Armor is making someone in Framingham rich through kickbacks or inside trading.
Tax forms, W2s, 1099's, and envelopes. Push them, push them now! If you don't you're competitor will!
All of the positions that were killed led to this debacle in the stores. It was foolish to think these stores could operate smoothly with a very slim labor allotment. This led to so many negative comps and NOT because of the decrease in visits. While the traffic has slowed it did not slow down THAT much. Until now...it came down to use labor to task and sacrifice floor coverage or use labor to focus on service and let operations slide. Both were losing equations. I believe there is certainly a place for an office supplies superstore but until the useless skus are eliminated and the stores are given the tools to succeed none of it matters.
