Thread regarding Marathon Oil Corp. layoffs

Happy Holidays Mr. Tillman

Mr. Tillman, there is a very special place in Hell for you. As you are sitting in church worshipping this Christmas, think about all the lives you crushed right before the holidays. I hope you can't sleep at night. I can't. My wife can't. And my children are struggling to understand why their Thanksgiving and Christmas trips to spend those holidays with their grandparents have been cancelled. You could have sold the company jets and saved every single person you laid off in this round. I wonder how much longer Marathon is going to exist with you and your incompetent team at the helm.

Anonymous204646 before you pot on the board try to engage your empathy gene, if you have one. You and Deanna would get along great together. Perhaps you two could go meet for coffee.

Next time you think about posting on this site about how bad your situation is, think about all the homeless men, women, and children who have to sleep on cold concrete at night while rats run over their raw feet---people who have no family to go to for thanksgiving, no Christmas gifts, no food, nothing. You have an education, work experience, and a 5-figure or more severance package to go forward. It's okay to be sad sometimes. Life is full of ups and downs but be grateful for what you DO have, which is much more than 90% of this country.

Making a statement that "the dividend is the first call on capital" when the company has positive cash flows only as a result of asset sales. What was the point? I think management is intentionally running this company into bankruptcy.

Agree completely, but my original thesis is undeniable.

The greener grass you refer to is a patch about 6' x 6' with a hundred laid of cows trying to find space on it. The ones who will do well in this climate are the ones with skills that are transferrable to other industries. Meanwhile, instead of skewering Cazalot, let's talk about Tillman spending a shitload of cash to buy back stock which then crashed, evaporating the profit he made selling the north sea assets. The ass.

Another perspective. Current management inherited a mess left by former management. Clarence and his cronies split the company in two, ran off with their millions, and left what we now know to be a subpar and unprepared MRO to compete in a different world while MPC thrives. The layoffs happening in 2015 should have been done in 2011 but those leaders didn't have the balls to do what needed to be done. You think if MRO were bought by another company you'd be treated any better? Sympathy for everyone who has lost their jobs, but take your severance, suck it up and move on. The grass is truly greener on the other side.

Deanna Jones will be sitting next to Tillman in that hot place. She was asked why they laid off in November instead of January so that the people who are being laid off can be taxed at a lower rate. Her answer? Because we want to hit the ground running on January 1st with our new organization in place. Every time this woman - this "repellant new HR VP with a spiteful and punitive persona" as Anonymous204306 aptly put it - opens her mouth it is amazing that she can even form a word with her foot so firmly stuffed in it. She should have been sold as a flight attendant along with the jets. What are these people thinking? Is our Board populated by morons? GET RID OF THESE PEOPLE so that I can retire from this company and not go down with it!

The writing was on the wall last year when they changed the performance review system, using the just in time excuse to mask their incompetence, made everyone except themselves endure that worthless leadership seminar, with that paragon of ethics Paula Broadwell as 1 of the instructors, wasted over a Billion buying back stock, and brought in a repellant new HR VP with a spiteful and punitive persona. A bunch of preening egotists who need to be publicly called out for their failures. Is the Board paying attention to this rodeo ?

Get rid of the people but keep the executive jets. Yep. Good move, Tillman! You're doing a great job of making decisions that are going to destroy this company and put us all out of work.

As a spouse of someone that was laid off in the first round, I can promise you that after all the tears have flowed and the anger has passed, you will come out of this much happier. I think it was completely spineless to do it during the holidays but the fact is that Tilman and his cronies don't give a crap about anyone but themselves. My advice is to take a week or two and just decompress. Take the family to see grandparents for Thanksgiving. Being around a support system is what your family needs right now. And then when you get home start looking for the next opportunity. Like I said before, you will get to the point where you are much happier. It isn't just a rumor, life outside of Marathon is so much better. Good luck to you!

He wanted drivers, not passengers? Nah, what he really needed was cannon fodder.

Jet the plants - keep the planes, Si7 all the way man. Let the masses wear blue jeans, that will make them happy. Leadership in action.
