It is already happening, ATT is laying off hundreds and maybe 1000s . Just that they are doing it without announcing because they are keeping it within a certain number each couple of weeks. But in multiple locations.

The company uses Fear and intimidation to shut people up, no wonder most of us causes notice and remember negative events, in ATO this is common a common occurance.
Management is also being laid off and very quietly also. The number will be around 10 to 15 k including union by end of 2015. People keep quiet because they think it's the other guy or department. executive management keeps 3rd level down in the dark or tell them it wont be their department. Surprise !! when it hits the confusion generated keeps people running for the door to another department but quickly find the door leads to another pit. The union leadership is either very stupid or working with them thinking it wont affect many. All they care about is dues and their protection.
The robopocalypse for workers may be inevitable. In this vision of the future, super-smart machines will best humans in pretty much every task. A few of us will own the machines, a few will work a bit… while the rest will live off a government-provided income…
save, save and save
We were busy everyday and then one day, no work at all. It's not that there's no work, it's that they shifted it to the lower paid premise techs. Most have less than 2 years in the field and don't understand the simplest of problems but this was Randall Stevenson's plan... Wait till 2020...
Yep if it's small groups they don't have to announce it. Plus they don't want to be short handed during the Holidays. Anyone affected is currently just being used to get through the holiday.id gladly give them half days between now and then if I were to be affected. But they need to just tell those folks. Scrooge at its best. i think all management needs to watch the movie, so they can be reminded of how that affects people.
